Icheon burger lunch for two: spicy whole shrimp burger at Gladyburger

Gladyburger Icheon Jungri District branch is a handmade burger restaurant on Buak-ro in Icheon, Gyeonggi, serving whole-shrimp patty burgers, chicken burgers and chicken sides. After visiting a valley in Icheon, the writer and her husband stopped by for a weekday lunch, ordering a Spicy Whole Shrimp Burger set and the new Nashville Hot Chicken Burger set at the mildest spice level (about as hot as Jin Ramen Spicy), plus Garlic Butter Fries and Chili Whole Mozzarella. With its thick patty packed with whole shrimp and tender chicken, Gladyburger is an Icheon burger spot especially worth recommending to shrimp burger fans.

Late-night Korean BBQ in Icheon with bibimbap & stew: Jeongsiljangne

After shopping at Lotte Premium Outlets Icheon, the writer ordered 2 servings of red pork belly (₩16,000 per 200g), a ₩10,000 yangpun bibimbap (big-bowl bibimbap for two) and an extra egg roll, with free doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and Icheon-rice steamed rice on the side. Open late and good value, Jeongsiljangne Ppalgan Gogi is a solid pick for dinner after outlet shopping.

Jangrokdong 365 (장록동365) is a butcher-shop-style Korean BBQ restaurant on Jinsangmi-ro 2344beon-gil in Icheon, Gyeonggi, where staff grill the meat, vegetables and even bread for you. After shopping at Lotte Outlet Icheon, the writer ordered the hanwoo (Korean beef) and Korean pork set (₩25,000) for two, ate hanwoo sirloin, pork belly and an individual doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and found their clothes barely smelled of meat. Jangrokdong 365 is an Icheon BBQ spot worth returning to when you want great hanwoo without grilling it yourself.

Kodari spot near Icheon National Cemetery: octopus braise, Seonghone

Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang (성호네왕코다리동태탕) is a kodari (semi-dried pollock) and dongtaetang (pollock stew) restaurant in Seolseong-myeon, Icheon, Gyeonggi, near the Icheon National Cemetery, and was featured on KBS's Saengsaeng Jeongbo. Arriving just before the break time, the writer ordered the flower octopus kodari braise for two (99,000 won), which came with clear cod soup and cheese steamed egg; the whole octopus was tender and the sauce was delicious. Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang is a hearty place to take your parents for a meal after paying respects at the Icheon National Cemetery.

For their first BBQ meal out since having a baby, the writer ordered the Yuksik Wang wagyu sampler (sirloin, chuck flap and rib meat) and pork kimchi stew; the restaurant has baby chairs, and the steamed egg was soft enough for the baby to eat a few bites. Verdict: Yuksik Wang is a go-to near Icheon Terminal, as good for beef as it is for pork.

Yuksik Wang is not cheap in absolute terms, but the meat quality, the mix of cuts and the review-event freebies made it a satisfying meal.

Icheon Korean BBQ: yellow-rice pot rice & nurungji, Neul Gogi Jip

Icheon Jjokgalbi (이천쪽갈비) is a jjokgalbi (pork rib) restaurant on Seohui-ro in Icheon, Gyeonggi. At Icheon Jjokgalbi the writer ate seasoned spicy ribs and soy sauce ribs grilled by the staff, added samgyeop kkodeul (chewy pork belly), and got doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and a taste of pork skin included with the meal. The spicy sauce that never turns greasy and the soy sauce that isn't sweet make Icheon Jjokgalbi a place worth going back to.
