Eonyang bakery café 15 min from Ulsan Station: salt bread at MUG

In short

MUG (카페 먹) is a large forest bakery café at 90 Hyangsandangae-ro in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, about 15 minutes by car from Ulsan Station. The visit covered an apple cinnamon roll, salt bread and melon bread eaten across MUG's indoor and outdoor seats, and the café's baby chairs, nursing room and diaper-changing area made it easy to stay a long time with a child. MUG is worth recommending as a drive-out family café in Ulsan.

MUG: a large Eonyang café 15 minutes from Ulsan Station

MUG is a large bakery café in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, about 15 minutes by car from Ulsan Station. If you're looking for a large café in Ulsan that's good to visit with kids, this one is worth putting on the list.

On days like these, perfect for outdoor activity, isn't it nicer to hop in the car for a nearby drive than stay indoors? Wanting to feel the now-cooler breeze in a spacious, open large café, I headed to MUG in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun.

What I liked even more is that it's not just a place to grab coffee and bread and leave — it's designed so you can linger comfortably surrounded by nature. The space is large and has a wide variety of indoor and outdoor seating, so it worked well both for visiting with a child and for spending time as a family. So in this post I want to introduce MUG, the Eonyang bakery café I visited and tried in person, for anyone looking for a large café in Ulsan.

Where is MUG and is there parking?

MUG's ample parking area

MUG, the large bakery café located in Eonyang, Ulsan, has very ample parking. It's also well positioned to pair with other nearby Ulsan outing spots like Jasuwjeong Cave Country and Ganwoljae.

A café and culture space set in the forest

When you arrive at MUG, you'll notice a mood a bit different from a typical large café. Built with charred wood on a site where everything once burned in a wildfire, its distinctive architecture, an invited-artist solo exhibition in the in-house gallery, and a weekend bubble event all make MUG a large Ulsan café where nature, art and people coexist — a great Eonyang bakery café to enjoy with family and kids.

Is MUG a good café to visit with kids?

MUG has baby chairs, a nursing room and even a diaper-changing area, so there was no worry about bringing along an infant or toddler. When choosing a café as a family, the taste of the drinks or bakery matters, of course, but what matters most is having a space you can settle into for a while. MUG's indoor space is on the spacious side, with a range of seats and tables — from tables good for reading to spots with a view.

There's also plenty of outdoor seating, which made it great for enjoying the forest with a child on a nice-weather day like this. Both the outdoor and indoor spaces were really spacious, perfect for spending time at a relaxed pace. With baby chairs, a nursing room, a diaper-changing area and other facilities well set up, MUG felt like a large Ulsan café you could visit without worry with a young child.

The bread counter at MUG: half the fun is choosing

You can't talk about MUG without mentioning the bakery menu. There's a really wide range of bakery and dessert items, and the quality is good enough that it seems a shame to just order a drink — I'd definitely recommend ordering something alongside it.

In particular, the signature menu of Eonyang bakery café MUG, the cinnamon roll, comes in apple, blueberry or lemon, so you can pick to your taste. We went with the apple cinnamon roll.

The tiramisu cinnamon roll is a limited item available only on weekends and public holidays, so anyone who's into it should keep that in mind.

What to order at MUG: apple cinnamon roll and salt bread

We ordered melon bread, apple cinnamon roll and salt bread. The cinnamon roll's gently spreading cinnamon aroma, the sweetness of the apple jam, and the crisp coating went really well with coffee. I got why cinnamon roll is pushed as this place's signature menu.

Salt bread, our little one's favorite item at home. This one was light yet savory, with a nicely crisp bottom and a rich butter flavor — every adult in our group praised it too. I'd definitely recommend ordering this salt bread as well!

Beyond what we ordered, there's a wide range of savory breads and dessert bakery items, so it was easy to order to your own taste. There's also a toaster on one side where you can warm your bread a bit more, as much as you like.

MUG, a large Ulsan café you can settle into for a long time and a great Eonyang bakery café to visit with kids, was impressive in many ways. Despite being a large café, it felt less noisy than expected, more a place to rest while taking in the scenery. On top of that, there was an invited artist's solo exhibition running, adding the fun of viewing artwork for a little while too.

On weekends, there's apparently a bubble event at set times, which should make for an even better time for anyone visiting with a child.

Who will like MUG most

  • Anyone looking for a café to stop by while driving around the Ulsan area
  • Anyone looking for a large Ulsan café with a different feel
  • Anyone who needs a café in Ulsan that's good to visit with kids
  • Anyone looking for a distinctive signature bakery café

With the weather this nice, a day that includes the outdoor space and not just the indoors would feel even more special — that was my review of MUG, the large Ulsan café :)
