Ulju, Ulsan café with a dirt-path trail: black sesame latte at MUG

In short

MUG (카페 먹) is a large bakery café at 90 Hyangsandagae-ro in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. On a weekend drive arriving around 11:50 am, we ordered a mocha bun and chestnut cheesecake with an americano and MUG's signature black latte, made with black sesame. Between the wide private parking lot, the pond at the entrance and the dirt-path walking trail out back, MUG is an easy place to slow down in nature.

What kind of place is MUG, the large bakery café in Eonyang, Ulsan?

MUG is a large bakery café on Hyangsandagae-ro in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. Today I want to give you a detailed rundown of my visit to this rising hotspot in Eonyang, Ulsan — a large café that's perfect for unwinding.

So many of you are probably wondering where to go on the weekend in Ulsan (me included, haha). My husband wanted to go for a drive and also hit up a café, so we were trying to figure out where to go, and this is the place we landed on!

Having been to this Eonyang, Ulsan bakery café myself, I could feel with my whole body why so many people keep coming here.

Parking at MUG and the pond by the entrance

In front of MUG there's a huge private parking lot, so even visiting on the weekend by car, you can relax without worrying about parking!

As we walked toward the entrance of the building, there was a large pond. I heard bubbles rise up from it later on, so with that in mind, we headed inside😃

Right as you walk into the building, artwork is hanging on the wall — the vibe is completely like being in an art museum or gallery!

Walking into the café, an enormous variety of baked goods welcomes you! So many kinds of bread on display that any bread lover's eyes would light up — I fell into a happy dilemma of what to pick.

The bread isn't overly pricey either, and with such a wide variety, it was really fun to pick and choose!

The long injeolmi (sweet rice cake) roll and the chewy ciabatta both looked really popular too~

What we picked at MUG: mocha bun and chestnut cheesecake

What we chose was the mocha bun — classic is best! It's actually one of my husband's favorite breads, so we went with it.

We also grabbed a chestnut cheesecake that catches your eye just from the look of it. I'd been thinking about wanting chestnuts the whole drive there, and there it was — the chestnut cheesecake, so I went, yes! and picked it up.

How busy was MUG at 11:50 am on a weekend?

We visited MUG around 11:50am on a weekend, a relatively early hour, but I was surprised to find it already buzzing with many customers. I guess that just shows how much people in Ulsan love this bakery café in Eonyang, Ulsan.

The space itself is so wide and comfortable that even with lots of people, we could browse around at ease without feeling cramped! The coffee-making area is also open to view, which made me think they really must care a lot about cleanliness^^

How do the MUG black latte and americano taste?

Americano and MUG black latte
Signature MUG black latte

MUG's clean, nutty americano paired really well with the sweet desserts, and the MUG black latte, the signature menu item, is supposedly black sesame flavored, but I felt like I picked up a bit of chocolate too! I enjoyed it a lot😁

Chestnut cheesecake and drink at MUG

The chestnut cheesecake was soft yet deep in flavor, so it went down easy, haha. The mocha bun was crisp on the outside and chewy and soft inside, so my mocha-bun-loving husband devoured it in no time!

MUG's outdoor yard and dirt-path walking trail

The bread quality was so good that I wanted to come back and try every other bakery item one by one. The wide, open outdoor yard is set up so kids or lovable dogs can run around freely.

There's a pretty dirt-path trail and a green lawn naturally connecting around it, so just taking a light walk with a takeout cup in hand felt automatically healing!

I genuinely recommend this to anyone who wants to spend a relaxed weekend with good desserts in nature. I hope you all get to visit and fill up on healing just like I did💗
