Gunsan Korean BBQ with staff grilling: Jongchagyeok

In short

Jongchagyeok is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Jochon-dong, Gunsan, with a train-station-themed interior. My family had the three-person marbled samgyeopsal set, and the staff finished grilling the pre-grilled meat so it was easy for us and tender for my child. Verdict: a place I would happily revisit for relaxed Korean barbecue in a fun setting.

My family and I came out for samgyeopsal (pork belly) at lunch. While looking for a meat restaurant in Gunsan, I found Jongchagyeok (종착역).

Jongchagyeok Gunsan restaurant information

When I went to Yangchon 1-gil, there was Jongchagyeok. It was near The Sharp Ocean City apartments. I walked toward the GS25 convenience store, and it came into view after about 200 m. It was near Building 301 of e-Pyeonhansesang Phase 2. It came right up when I entered it into navigation.

It felt fresh to have a meat restaurant themed around a train station. It was completely different from an ordinary Korean barbecue place. My family found the atmosphere fascinating too.

The tables were spacious and comfortable to sit at. The feeling of eating meat in a train station was really fun.

The menu and three-person marbled samgyeopsal

We ordered the marbled samgyeopsal as a three-person set. The meat came pre-grilled.

It had already been cooked partway, which was so convenient.

Pre-grilled pork belly on the grill

The staff simply put it on the grill and finished cooking it. When I picked up a piece, I could see it had a lot of marbling. It was full of juices.

It was tender with the first bite, so my child found it easy to chew too. It was really delicious wrapped in ssam vegetables. The meat's aroma came through, and it was richly juicy. It felt like we were eating truly good-quality meat.

How was the staff grilling service?

This was what I liked most when we first came in. The staff cooked and served each piece of meat well. We only had to eat comfortably. We did not even have to worry about when to flip it. They cooked it at exactly the right time. It was so nice that we could take care of other things while eating. This service made the meal much more relaxing.

Side dishes named after train stations

I was surprised while looking over the menu. The menu items had train-station names attached to them.

Side dishes named after train stations

There were Mapo Station pork skin, Haenam Station noodles in young-radish kimchi broth, Italy Station steamed cheese egg, and Chuncheon Station spicy buckwheat noodles—foods with distinctive regional touches.

I thought this concept was really creative. Rather than simply selling meat, it let us enjoy the train-station atmosphere and feel as if we were traveling.
