Daejeon pork belly restaurant with a kids' playroom: Hanmaeum Tapnip

It's been getting cooler morning and night lately. A few days ago I visited Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Tapnip in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon — an outdoor BBQ tent spot that was perfect for this kind of weather.

You know camping restaurants are great in summer, but they're even better in fall, right?! I hope you'll visit at least once this season — let's get into the post!

Hanmaeum Tapnip: location, hours and tent fees

Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Tapnip is at 202-21 Expo-ro 539beon-gil, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon (Tapnip-dong 601), South Korea, and is open 12:00–23:00. Tent fees are ₩15,000 on weekdays and ₩20,000 on weekends/holidays. The side dish self-bar is free, and outside food isn't allowed.

Why Hanmaeum Tapnip works with kids: playroom and water play area

The playroom at Hanmaeum Tapnip has claw machines, arcade games, a slide, a bounce toy, and more. There's plenty for kids to enjoy, so it's a nice place to bring them.

And here's the amazing part — behind the playroom building there's this huge water play area too. Summer's on its way out, but it must have been so much fun in the hot months, haha.

What the camping tents feel like in the evening

Hanmaeum Tapnip doesn't have a regular indoor hall — being a camping restaurant, it's made up of tents. We visited in the evening, and the lighting was so pretty and atmospheric that I was glad we came at night.

At lunchtime you can eat surrounded by green trees, but in the evening you get this dreamy glow instead — that felt pretty romantic, haha.

With a projector and a fire brazier in the center, it really had that camping feel, and once they lit the bonfire, this Yuseong-gu, Daejeon spot's atmosphere was blazing. Beer is unlimited for ₩4,000.

The inside of the tent has high ceilings, and each tent comes with its own air conditioner and heater. When we mentioned we had a baby with us while booking, they had a baby chair and fork ready for us. Basic tableware also comes pre-set in a basket.

Ordering meat at the mini-mart: what Hanmaeum Tapnip sells

You order food at the mini-mart located behind the tents. It's literally a small mart, but it really has everything.

They sell ramyeon, meat, mushroom sets, minari (water celery), alcohol, drinks, ice cream, and more. The side dish self-bar is free to use; everything else you have to buy.

Staff grill the pork belly at your table

What makes Hanmaeum Tapnip even more special is that a staff member grills the meat for you directly — the whole time we could just relax in the tent and focus on talking.

With practiced, quick hands they grill everything evenly, and if you ask them to throw in kimchi, minari, or mushrooms too, they'll do that as well — you can just leave it all to them without worry.

A full plate of good-quality Daejeon pork

Here's the perfectly grilled pork belly, mushrooms, and kimchi from this Yuseong-gu, Daejeon spot — I loved the neat touch of the sliced, nicely plated mushrooms, and the golden-brown, not-overdone look made my jaw drop and eyes go wide the moment I saw it.

The meat quality must have been good, because it was tender and full of juice — and it tasted even better eaten inside the tent.

The complimentary doenjang soup and jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) were refreshing alongside the savory pork belly,

and the fresh wrap greens and side dishes were crisp and refreshing — perfect with the pork belly.

Sometimes wrapped in lettuce, sometimes with kimchi, it felt like eating a lettuce wrap or bossam (boiled pork wrap). Dip it in the sesame oil salt, then dip again into that orange powder for extra flavor — keep that in mind when you eat, haha.

The free extras handed over after paying

After paying, we received a ₩10,000 gift certificate usable at Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang in Yuseong, Daejeon, plus three sets of fireworks tools, one per person. I gave the gift certificate to a friend who lives in Daejeon, and we headed straight to the brazier to light the fireworks and play. Our 3-year-old loved it, haha.

I'd recommend this camping restaurant this fall for anyone visiting with kids. If it had lacked in facilities, food, or staff kindness, it would have been a shame — but it had all three, so I left satisfied.
