Mokpo Korean BBQ with meat grilled for you: Simdon
In short
Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Mokpo, Gwangju, where the meat arrives fully grilled on one platter. We enjoyed the medium Simdon assorted grilled platter, bomb cheese steamed egg, complimentary doenjang sulbap, and plenty of accompaniments. Verdict: a wonderfully easy place to enjoy meat without anyone being stuck at the grill.

A fully grilled platter in Mokpo's Pyeonghwa Square
I heard there was a great meat place in Mokpo where everything comes out grilled together on one platter, so I had to go! This is Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch, located at Pyeonghwa Square in Mokpo. That yellow sign really catches your eye!

It's a BBQ restaurant with a retro feel right from the outside. The warm lighting made it feel so cozy.

At most Korean BBQ places, you either grill it yourself or someone comes to grill it for you—both are nice, but it can get hectic, right? At Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch, everything arrives fully grilled from the start, so all you have to do is eat ><💖

Even the fabric deodorizer by the entrance was such a thoughtful touch!

Even though it was a weekday, there were already quite a few diners there~ I guess everyone wanted a relaxed meal, haha.

Besides the seats above, there are hidden seats that aren't easy to spot from the entrance too, haha. It would be sooo nice for a small group dinner!

A menu that makes you want to order every dessert
One thing I loved here was that, maybe because they call them desserts rather than side dishes, all the prices were so reasonable? It just makes you want to order every single one..

We ordered the medium Simdon assorted grilled platter and a bomb cheese steamed egg too. I looked at blogs before coming, and the steamed egg looked absolutely outrageous… 😱 This was a must-order.

Before the food came out, I read through the platter contents and how to eat it so I could enjoy it properly, haha 🐽

If you write a review, they give you one Excellent ice cream per person, so it would be nice to post a tasty-looking photo and a pretty review, then have it for dessert 🍨

They brought out myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), gim (roasted seaweed), wasabi, herring roe jeot, cumin, and more to eat with the meat.

Complimentary doenjang sulbap and bomb cheese steamed egg
Lately, whenever I come to a meat restaurant, I've been totally hooked on the joy of having doenjang sulbap—rice in soybean-paste broth.. 🥺 And here, they give you doenjang sulbap as a complimentary dish..? It had plenty of tofu, meat, onion, and more. The meat takes about 10–15 minutes to come out, so if you have a drink with the doenjang sulbap as an anju (drinking snack), the meat arrives in no time, hehe.

True to its name, the bomb cheese steamed egg came topped with a huge amount of cheese. Take a big bite~~ The steamed egg was fluffy and nicely seasoned, and the cheese softened its saltiness just enough—it was perfect 😋 My boyfriend said he could happily keep drinking with just the doenjang sulbap and steamed egg, and showered them with praise, haha.

How to eat the juicy assorted grilled platter
Even the medium size was seriously huge.. I can't even imagine how big the large must be. It really has pretty much everything in it. Since there aren't separate add-ons besides the meat, I figured they might give you more if you ask for what you need? What they gave us was more than enough, though, haha. Look at the outside of that meatㅠㅠㅠ It was dripping with juices—and so was I.

I tried the combinations on the wall in order, and this was surprisingly one of my favorites, haha: gim, ssammu (pickled radish wrap), and herring roe jeot. I thought the herring roe jeot might be fishy, but it wasn't as fishy as expected; it was pleasantly salty and really good.

You already know the Maldon salt and wasabi combination, right? It's the most basic way to taste all those meat juices, and it's delicious. The scallion pickle in special sauce was clean-tasting yet addictive when dipped in it!!

It's delicious even if you pile in all sorts of things and make a wrap~

Dip it in cumin, add onion and chives, and it kind of feels like eating lamb skewers? I loved being able to eat it in so many ways. Oh, and this pork skin was soft, moist, and chewy too ㅠㅠ

It has a little seasoning, so it's good even on its own, you know? But when you dip it in soybean powder, the sweet seasoning mellows out and a nutty flavor comes through—so delicious~ Even the mushrooms full of moisture and the grilled pineapple.. You know grilled pineapple is such a treat, right? Thanks to that, nobody had to suffer over the grill, and we had such a comfortable meal🥺💖
