Six-flavor mugwort Choco Pie taste test in Gwangju's Songjeong Market
In short
Ssukseu Choco Pie is a mugwort dessert takeout bakery inside 1913 Songjeong Station Market, across from Songjeong Station in Gwangju. The writer tried all six flavors from the ₩24,800 gift set of 6 — mugwort red bean, Nonsan strawberry, real chocolate, Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort, Udo peanut, and mugwort injeolmi — and found fresh cream instead of marshmallow made them less sweet and softer. The mugwort injeolmi, with its chewy rice cake bits, came out on top and would make a great gift for elders.

A Songjeong Station favorite in Gwangju — Ssukseu Choco Pie (쑥스초코파이), a mugwort dessert specialist. Sooks.
Today I'm introducing Ssukseu, Korea's first mugwort Choco Pie to be patent-recognized.
You can order it delivered through Naver Smart Store, and reservations are possible too.
Ssukseu Choco Pie basic info
Address: 27 Songjeong-ro 8beon-gil, Gwangju Hours: 10:00–18:30 (weekdays) / 10:00–20:00 (weekends)

Ssukseu, this Songjeong Station favorite, sits right across from the station, inside Songjeong Station Market.
How to get there

Come in here. If you look at the map, you'll see the red arrow about halfway into the market — zoom in and take a look. I parked and wandered around looking for it, but you all should just walk straight ahead and keep your eyes on the left side.
If you're coming from Songjeong Station, exit the station, cross at the crosswalk near the underpass, and walk straight — the market entrance is on your right. Once inside the entrance, Ssukseu, this Gwangju Songjeong Station favorite, is on the left.
Where to park?

They cover 1 hour of parking at the 1913 Songjeong Station Market parking tower.
Inside the shop
The bear is so cute, isn't it? The whole shop is very green.
Everyone — doesn't it seem odd that there's a bear? A thought that struck me while writing this post: it's mugwort, right, and in the Dangun myth the bear ate mugwort and became human. Right? Haha.

What I ordered — Ssukseu Choco Pie gift set of 6
What I ordered was the Ssukseu Choco Pie gift set of 6, ₩24,800.

Since fresh cream is inside, be sure to refrigerate the Choco Pies. After purchase: refrigerated 8 days, frozen 30 days.
What's included

The set comes with 6 pieces. You can pick whichever flavors you want. I grabbed one of each to try them all.
Comparing Ssukseu's 6 Choco Pie flavors
Sea-breeze mugwort whole red bean
A fresh Choco Pie made with Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort. The red bean cream, made with whole domestic red beans that still have texture, is really appealing. Not too sweet, and you can see the whole beans in the cream — can you tell?
Nonsan strawberry
Covered in chocolate, with soft, not-too-sweet fresh cream inside

there's a fresh, handmade strawberry purée made with Nonsan strawberries. I was really hoping for actual fresh strawberry pieces, but I guessed wrong — haha.
Real chocolate
This one isn't covered in chocolate but in cocoa powder. Can you see it? Cocoa powder~~

There's something embedded between the bread layers, but I couldn't quite tell what.

Chocolate chips embedded in the white fresh cream. Whoa — that crunchy bite is so fun!
Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort
Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort harvested in spring, along with

fresh cream blend together subtly — sweet and delicious.

Udo peanut
Wondering what Udo peanuts are? They're peanuts grown on Udo Island, Jeju. Smaller than regular peanuts. Really cute and adorable-looking.
Can you see how packed with Udo peanuts it is? Real peanuts embedded right in there. You can even bite into peanuts in the cream!!

Recommended for anyone who doesn't like sweets.
Mugwort injeolmi (rice cake)

Ssukseu's best-selling item. A fresh Choco Pie made with Geomundo sea-breeze mugwort.

On the menu board, the injeolmi flavor is marked as Best.

The sweetness and softness of the injeolmi cream and the nutty flavor of the roasted bean powder go together so harmoniously,

and the chewy texture of the rice cake pieces is genuinely delicious. This was the best one for my taste too.

Can you see the rice cake pieces tucked in between the cream? Oh, I want to eat it again.
Naver receipt review event

Ssukseu Choco Pie, this Gwangju Songjeong Station favorite, was also running a Naver receipt review event. After purchasing, search "Ssukseu Choco Pie" on Naver, verify your receipt, and leave a review to get 1 free Ssukseu cookie. I received a mini Choco Pie. You can join even with a purchase of just 1 item, so if you visit, don't miss it. ※ You can participate in the review event once per day.
Instagram follow event
Ssukseu Choco Pie was also running an Instagram follow event. If you follow their official Instagram, they pick 3 people each week to send Choco Pies to. Winners are announced every Tuesday, so if you enjoyed Ssukseu, it might be worth joining. ※ Event details may change depending on when you visit, so check Instagram before participating.

Final thoughts
Because these handmade mugwort Choco Pies use fresh cream instead of the marshmallow you find in store-bought versions, they're not too sweet and very soft — the mugwort injeolmi especially is really delicious. I think it would make a wonderful gift for elders.
