My younger sibling said they wanted meat, so after some deliberation, we went to Ubokgeum Saenggalbi Mokpo Namak Branch, a well-known spot in Muan, Jeonnam. I went in expecting good-quality beef at a reasonable price, and yep, it was such a satisfying meal that I completely recommend it.

A spacious beef rib restaurant near the Jeonnam Provincial Government Complex
The restaurant is in the dining alley near the Jeonnam Provincial Government Complex in Namak. It is large and spacious, so it was easy to find.

The clean interior caught my eye as soon as I walked in. With its well-equipped private rooms, Ubokgeum Saenggalbi Mokpo Namak Branch is just right for family gatherings or work dinners.

The tables were roomy enough that even a group would not feel cramped, and ordering by machine meant we could order right away without waiting, which was convenient. A Naver review event offered kimchi rolled noodles and chagyechi, but we skipped it because we wanted naengmyeon. The meat selection was substantial too, including fresh ribs, marinated ribs, and Korean beef brisket. Unique sides such as flower crab jjageuli were popular too—everyone at the other tables seemed to be ordering them.

Fresh beef ribs and side dishes
We ordered fresh ribs first and planned to add more later. I also loved how neatly the side dishes came out: scallion salad topped with spicy chojang, crisp pickled onions, fragrant myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), young radish kimchi, and pickled radish wraps. Everything paired beautifully with the ribs and felt thoughtfully prepared. The chojang scallion salad especially kept cutting through the richness every time I wrapped up a piece of meat, so I kept reaching for it.

Tender beef ribs grilled by the staff
The marbling on the main-event beef ribs was seriously a work of art, right? A huge plus was that the staff grilled the meat themselves, so all we had to do was relax and eat.
They grilled the raw meat directly without pre-searing it, skillfully controlling the heat so it cooked without burning.
The steamed egg that came as a basic side was incredibly soft too—perfect for bites between the meat.
If my sibling and I had grilled the meat ourselves, it would have been burnt already, but the staff cooked it wonderfully tender. They even cut it into perfectly bite-sized pieces. Happiness!

My sibling normally does not easily say something is delicious, but that day they could not stop picking up the meat with their chopsticks and kept marveling at how good it was.

Even just dipped in salt, the quality of the meat let its savory flavor and richness shine. It was so tender it practically melted in the mouth.

Dipping it in the house garlic sauce lightly balanced the richness while boosting the beef's savory flavor, which I loved.

It was also so good with the myeongi namul. The leaves cut through the beef's richness and somehow made it feel like I was getting vegetables too, so I could just keep eating happily without a break.
They even carefully grilled the meat attached to the bone. As someone who already loves meat on the bone, I was incredibly excited from the moment they started grilling it.

This grilled meat had deep savory flavor and was clean without even a hint of odor, while its characteristic chewy texture was such a hit. The texture was even more pronounced than the soft meat, which suited my taste perfectly.

Marinated beef ribs with a distinctive finish
As we ate the meat with the pickled onions too, I got curious about the marinated version, so we ordered marinated beef ribs as well.

The marinade on these beef ribs had a distinctive finish that took away any beefy odor and lifted the flavor.

Because the meat had been marinated, it was even more tender, but the seasoning was neither too sweet nor too salty—just right. My sibling and I each took a bite, found it so delicious that our eyes went wide, and immediately started our little mukbang at this Muan favorite.

A refreshing finish with mul naengmyeon after the ribs
Both mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth) and bibim naengmyeon cost ₩7,000, so we debated what to get before choosing the refreshingly cold mul naengmyeon. It was perfect for cleansing the palate.

After all those juicy ribs, the cold, tangy broth paired so well. It was generously topped with boiled egg, cucumber, and radish, making it look neat too.

The noodles were springy and chewy, exactly how I like them, while the broth was rich yet clean. I finished the whole bowl in no time. It was delicious wrapped with the meat and satisfying on its own, so I kept eating even though I was full.

I was truly full but could not stop, so my hands never rested until I finished neatly with ssam (leaf wraps). I was so happy to have enjoyed beef this deliciously.

Why I recommend it for family meals and gatherings
We even thoroughly finished the meat on the bones at the end. It somehow tasted even better with the rib marinade flavor. Beef ribs can be difficult to eat often because of the price, but Ubokgeum Saenggalbi in Muan offers reasonable prices for the quality, so you can enjoy it without feeling burdened. The spacious restaurant also made the meal more comfortable.
There is also the fun of eating while taking in the charcoal aroma, plus a varied selection of alcohol if you want to pair it with a glass of soju or beer. With spacious rooms and comfortable seating, it is a great choice for family meals or special-day gatherings. Shared parking is plentiful too, so driving over is no problem. If you are looking for great ribs around Namak, I can confidently recommend it—everyone, definitely give it a try.
