Busanjin pizza restaurant with taco and jambon-beurre halves: Pickles
In short
Pickles is a pizza and pasta restaurant in Busanjin, Busan. On a return visit, I ordered a half-and-half jambon-beurre and taco pizza with puttanesca pasta and chicken steak. Verdict: Pickles is memorable for trying two very different pizzas on one pie.

If you're looking for great pizza in Seomyeon, there's one place I've gone back to twice. It's Pickles in Jeonpo Cafe Street. I kept thinking about the pizza from my first visit, so I finally went back. This time, I ordered a half-and-half jambon-beurre and taco pizza, along with puttanesca pasta and chicken steak—and once again, the pizza here was what stayed with me most.

My second visit to Pickles in Jeonpo
Pickles sits further inside Jeonpo Cafe Street. It looks casual from outside, but once you step in, the wood tones and warm lighting give it the feel of a little brunch spot in New York.

It was neat without feeling too formal, so it worked nicely for a meal with friends or a Seomyeon date.

Water and pickles were available at the separate self-service bar, so you could take as much as you needed. More than anything, I hadn't come to try somewhere new this time—I deliberately returned because I remembered the pizza from before. That's how clearly the pizza had stayed with me at this Jeonpo restaurant.
Jambon-beurre and taco half-and-half

I couldn't bear to choose just one pizza, so this time I ordered the jambon-beurre pizza and taco pizza as a half-and-half. Even in the photos, the two sides of the pie have quite different vibes, right?

The jambon-beurre side came with jambon ham, butter, and arugula, while the taco side was generously topped with taco ingredients reimagined pizza-style. You don't have to give up either one, which also makes choosing a menu easier when several people visit.
How the jambon-beurre and taco pizzas differed

Eating them alternately, I could really tell that the two pizzas had different charms. The jambon-beurre pizza paired the salty savoriness of the jambon with buttery richness and fresh arugula. There were plenty of toppings, but perhaps because of the arugula, it didn't feel as heavy as I expected.

The taco pizza, on the other hand, had a much bolder, more playful flavor. It felt as if an American soul-food taco had been moved straight onto a pizza, so going from a slice of jambon-beurre to the taco side changed the mood completely. That made me feel like ordering half-and-half instead of just one flavor was the right call.
What was the puttanesca pasta like?

The pasta we ordered with the pizza was puttanesca pasta. It was an oil pasta with tomatoes, capers, olives, and anchovies for extra umami; when I twirled the noodles around my fork, its salty, savory flavor really came through.

Having bites of pasta in between rather than eating pizza continuously made for a nice combination.

I think it would suit anyone who prefers a savory oil pasta with olives or capers over a rich, creamy style.
Chicken steak with potatoes and coleslaw
Last was the generously sized chicken steak. The plate looked fairly rustic when it first arrived, but once I cut into it, the chicken was tender.

The potatoes were good with it, and adding bites of coleslaw here and there balanced the flavors nicely. With pizza, pasta, and chicken steak on the table, it became quite a feast—but by the last photo, the plates were almost empty.

I returned to Pickles in Jeonpo because I kept thinking about the pizza from my first visit. This time I tried the jambon-beurre and taco half-and-half, plus pasta and chicken, and after a second visit, the pizza was still what I remembered most.

If you're looking for a Seomyeon pizza spot in Jeonpo Cafe Street with toppings a little different from the usual, Pickles is worth adding to your list. The next time I crave pizza in Jeonpo, I think it will naturally come to mind again.
