Gimpo restaurant for spicy braised pork back ribs: Jin Galmaegal

In short

Jin Galmaegal is a restaurant in Pungmu-dong, Gimpo, Gyeonggi, serving spicy braised pork back ribs with a choice of add-ins. We chose Shin Ramyun-level heat, added soft tofu, and ordered mini pork cutlets for the child. A generous, satisfying meal for rice or drinks.

Spicy braised pork back ribs and side dishes

The side dishes came out first. Since the braised ribs are fairly spicy, I liked that the sides were mild and easy to eat alongside them. The cabbage salad came generously coated in a coleslaw-like dressing, and I kept reaching for it. I got two refills, haha.

Eating these now and then while having the ribs freshens up your mouth. The stir-fried potatoes were soft and nicely savory, too—such a rice thief.

The dressed lettuce had a lovely tang to it. It went well with the ribs, too.

A generous pot of spicy braised pork back ribs

Here comes today's main dish.

Spicy braised pork back ribs in a pot

As soon as I saw the pot, I was surprised by how much there was. It was a generous amount even for two people, with mushrooms, rice cakes, and glass noodles already included.

You just need to let it boil a little longer, then it is ready to eat.

We chose a heat level about like Shin Ramyun, and I think it was just right. The seasoning had soaked well into the ribs, and the meat slipped neatly off the bones, so they were easy to eat. Just look at how plump and meaty they are.

There was no off smell, and the meat was tender, so it disappeared quickly with the add-ins. After we had eaten some, we added the soft tofu.

Adding soft tofu to the spicy broth gave it another layer of flavor. It was silky, absorbed the seasoning quickly, and felt good enough to eat in place of rice.

Mini pork cutlets ordered for the child

Our child cannot eat spicy food yet, so we ordered the mini pork cutlets.

They finished them with a bowl of rice in no time. Since there are menu items children can eat, it is a good place to visit with a child, too.

Visit review

The spicy braised pork back ribs were delicious, and the owner was kind, so we left after a really pleasant meal. If you like spicy food, it is a good place for a meal with rice or for a drink. Takeout is available as well, so it would be perfect for enjoying comfortably at home.
