Seoul Station Japanese restaurant for grill-your-own gyukatsu: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, where diners grill gyukatsu at the table. I ordered the gyukatsu set and enjoyed it from rare to crisp, especially with butter and wasabi. Verdict: A place I’d happily revisit when I’m craving tender gyukatsu near Seoul Station.

I’m going to introduce one of the Seoul Station restaurants that I keep thinking about lately! I absolutely love gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet), and the balance of juicy meat and crisp coating is so good that I really want to recommend it to anyone visiting Seoul.

From the outside, Ichigyu near Seoul Station already had such a clean, polished feel. Being close to Seoul Station makes it easy to stop by before or after a train, and it was great for a quick meal during a business trip or while traveling.

You can walk over from the Seoul Station Exit 2 side, so the access is great too!!! As you’d expect from a Seoul Station restaurant, the location is really good. I walked from Seoul Station and think it took less than five minutes. It’s in the basement of the LG building! Just take the escalator inside down.

A setting for solo diners and groups alike
I really love this kind of atmospheric interior, and it felt like I had stepped into a gyukatsu specialty restaurant in Japan, which was lovely. The warm atmosphere was exactly my taste. The layout works well whether you’re eating alone or coming with a group, so I recommend dropping in whenever.

The gyukatsu set and its accompaniments
I ordered the gyukatsu set, haha. Along with gyukatsu, there are various à la carte dishes, curry, steak, and more, so it could be nice to order several things to share. I honestly wanted to have it with a Kirin draft beer, butㅠㅠㅠㅠ I held back.

Can you see that vivid pink juice between the thick slices of fried beef!!? It had the prettiest color of any gyukatsu I’ve had so far. It looked like it would be incredibly, incredibly tender.

The rice came separately in a generous serving, and the bowl of rice, shredded cabbage, ponzu sauce, and mustard made for a substantial spread with lots of ways to eat it. You can ask for more rice, so keep that in mind! (They give you a really generous amount, so you’ll have plenty :))

Gyukatsu grilled your way on a small stone plate
Even looking at it again, the gorgeous marbling and striploin looked so appetizing. The real highlight here is grilling it yourself over the tabletop brazier. You can sear it on the small stone plate at each seat however you like, enjoying a crisp outside and juicy inside. Honestly, it was the most tender gyukatsu I’ve had so far, so it made me want to come back for more.

I started with it slightly rare, then cooked it more and more, which was great because I could enjoy both textures. The butter they served alongside made it even richer. When I crisped up the outside with butter, it just melted in my mouthㅠㅠ I really recommend it.

More than anything, I love piling on lots of wasabi, and it was the best with white rice. Personally, crisping up the outside and taking a big bite with wasabi like this was the most delicious, so I recommend this combination, haha.

Other set menus next time
Looking at the menu, there were various set meals and sides beyond the gyukatsu set, so I’d like to try another combination next time. If you love Japanese food, you really have to visit Ichigyu, one of Seoul’s great restaurants.

You can also make a reservation through Catchtable, haha.
