Signature assorted seafood platter at Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch

A pojangmacha-style seafood bar in Janggi-dong, Gimpo

I found Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch (천막집 장기점) while looking for a Janggi-dong date spot with my boyfriend, and it had SUCH proper pojangmacha (Korean tent-bar) vibes! We brought the car for seafood, so we clinked glasses with non-alcoholic beer through our tears, but the atmosphere was still ahhh—✨ This is genuinely somewhere I want to recommend to anyone looking for a Janggi-dong bar... ♥

Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch location and parking

It’s tucked inside the Janggi-dong dining alley by Exit 5 of Janggi Station on the Gimpo Goldline :) There are so many good places to eat here, which is why I love it so much, hehe.

There is room for two cars beside the shop, but it’s tight, so I recommend using a public parking lot.

Seafood tanks inside the restaurant

The tanks were full of seafood, and they looked clean and well maintained 🫧 I’d actually passed Cheonmakjip in Janggi-dong a few times and saved it, thinking I had to try it one day. Gurae-dong is fun too, with plenty to do, but I still think Janggi-dong—with all its atmospheric cafés—is better for a date ♥

I usually avoid loud bars, but Cheonmakjip had such strong old-school pojangmacha vibes that I was so curious ✨

Restaurant entrance with an outdoor pojangmacha atmosphere

Wow... as soon as we walked in, it really felt like an outdoor tent-bar setup! Seeing all the graffiti here and there also gave it old tteokbokki-shop vibes, haha. Retro vibes are the best ♥

The tables weren’t packed too closely together either—just right! We went on a Friday night, so of course it was super busy, but the staff were incredibly kind. Places with service like this make me want to keep coming back. The service is the best 𖤐

Ordering assorted seafood and hoe-deopbap

Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch has such a wide-ranging menu! From dried snacks and seafood to pocha dishes, soups, stews, and proper meal options, you can take care of both first and second rounds here ♥ We ordered the assorted seafood we’d always been curious about whenever we saw it on Baemin, plus hoe-deopbap (rice mixed with raw fish and vegetables) that my boyfriend wanted, and non-alcoholic beer like this .ᐟ

  • Assorted seafood for 2 ₩39,000: 2 sea squirts, 1 sea cucumber, 2 whelks, 1 gaebul, 1 live octopus, 2 shrimp, 2 sweet shrimp, 1 octopus, 1 abalone
  • Hoe-deopbap ₩10,000
  • Non-alcoholic beer (Cass Zero can) ₩3,000 × 2

After ordering, we settled into a red table 🍽️

Tent-bar seating at a red table

The basic table setting. The side dishes were just like the ones old-school tent bars or sashimi restaurants used to serve: raw carrot and cucumber, ssamjang, and bean sprout soup.

You can help yourself to side dishes at the self-serve bar. Naturally, only take what you can finish—no leftovers please 🥕

For dipping the seafood, they had chojang, soy sauce, and sesame oil sauce ready. Lots and lots of the sesame oil sauce... ♥ Seafood is all about sesame oil sauce! One non-alcoholic beer became two. It was leaving us wanting more, so we got one each ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Hoe-deopbap loaded with flying fish roe

🐟 Hoe-deopbap ₩10,000. The hoe-deopbap came out first among what we ordered .ᐟ Cubed raw fish, shredded vegetables, and absolutely heaps of flying fish roe. I scolded my boyfriend for saying it might not be enough food, but it was way more generous than expected, so I felt a little awkward... ٩( ᐛ )و

Hoe-deopbap with cubed raw fish and plenty of vegetables

I was like, why are you putting on so much chojang? But after trying it, it was milder than I expected, so I added more—my bad... ♥ The chewy texture of the fish was lovely, there were lots of vegetables too, and the pop of the flying fish roe was the kick 🪺

Assorted seafood with plenty to choose from

🐟 Assorted seafood for 2 ₩39,000. Ahh... ✨ This is Cheonmakjip’s thing, right? The main dish you simply can’t skip >.< The presentation alone absolutely wins.

Assorted seafood for two with a varied selection

Isn’t the selection so well put together? ♥ I get tired of things easily and I’m so fickle, so I love having lots of different kinds of seafood. There was so much variety, all delicious, and it was such fun choosing what to eat .ᐟ

Assorted seafood platter including live octopus

It wasn’t wasabi powder mixed into soy sauce either—it was fresh wasabi. My boyfriend told me to look at it, lol, so cute... ♥ The live octopus was so fresh; it kept moving and sticking to things, seriously 🐙 I think I’d seen a review saying the freshness had dropped a little and it was soft, so I was a bit worried, but...

Huh... it was freshness itself.

It was simply seafood that had just been caught 🐟 It was so fresh and crunchy it could make your jaw ache, so put those worries away .ᐟ As someone who prefers sashimi to meat and won’t eat bland, mushy seafood, I can vouch for this place ♥

Thinly sliced abalone on the seafood platter

How did they slice the abalone that thin? Wow. It was crunchy, but thin enough to chew easily, with such a proper taste of the sea... ♥ I was already moved by the look of it, and when it tastes good too, you can’t help becoming a regular 。゚(゚´ω`゚)゚。

My boyfriend had driven, so he kept debating whether to drink, but resisted soju until the end because he had to take me home... ♥ We made do with non-alcoholic beer 🍻

Non-alcoholic beer and a seafood date spread

Huh? .ᐟ What is this, hahaha. I wanted to make a heart with sweet shrimp, but they were too delicate... 🫧

Heart shape made with sweet shrimp

A perfect shrimp heart 🦐 ❤️ I seriously seriously seriously seriously recommend this for a date. If you have a girlfriend who goes crazy for seafood, sashimi, and pocha vibes? Head straight to Cheonmakjip Janggi Branch... (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)
