Stepping inside, the first thing I noticed was Gajang's big "amazing deal" sign. They specialize in cleaning strollers and car seats as well as sneakers and luxury items. On one side they also sell SS-grade secondhand sneakers that have been washed and sterilized in-house — well-known brand sneakers at reasonable prices, and you can try them on right there.

When I walked in, the owner happened to be carefully cleaning a customer's sneakers, picking out debris from every nook and cranny one by one. Watching that, I could tell this wasn't a place that half-asses things — I felt like I'd come to the right spot.

Six pairs of sneakers and a grandchild's car seat in one drop-off

I dropped off six pairs of sneakers all at once. I also brought in my grandchild's car seat. Since it's something kids actually use, I'd been going back and forth on where to trust with the cleaning, but seeing the owner work so meticulously put my mind at ease.

One thing that stood out in Gajang's process is that strollers and car seats aren't washed as a whole — every part is disassembled first. Since strollers and car seats are made up of seat fabric, frame, buckles, and more, I imagine there's a real difference between just wiping the surface and taking the whole thing apart to wash.

First, they check the condition of the item and identify the dirty spots to separate out what needs washing. They inspect even the parts that aren't normally visible, like seat corners or folding sections, before starting disassembly. Since these are products kids use, they say they carefully check for crumbs, dust, and drink or food stains wedged into small gaps.

The disassembled seat fabric and covers are washed using natural detergents — a natural cleaning agent made from soap nuts, sodium percarbonate, baking soda, and the like, used to lift out grime. Since it's a product that touches a child's skin directly, they're clearly careful about what detergent they use. The fabric is washed according to how dirty it is, rinsed thoroughly, and then moved on to drying.

For strollers and car seats, it's not just about getting the fabric clean — the frame is managed separately too. Once disassembled, the frame's condition is checked, then it's washed and sterilized using high-temperature steam. At home, you'd usually just wipe down the visible parts of a stroller, but here, going through disassembly, washing, and steam in order seems to be the real difference with a professional service.

Why drying matters as much as washing

After washing comes the drying process. The store has a dryer and a sterilizer inside, so the washed parts are dried and managed thoroughly. But while looking over the finished car seat, I noticed some damage I'd never even mentioned had been neatly repaired. They'd fixed it with adhesive so carefully you could barely tell. Honestly, I'd noticed the damage earlier but felt too awkward to bring it up, so I never said anything — yet the owner took care of it anyway, without me even asking.

What touched me even more was that they didn't even mention having fixed it. It really felt like the left hand not letting the right hand know, quietly taking care of things — it warmed my heart.
