Ansan sashimi restaurant, conger eel perilla wraps: Eochongye 1beonji

In short

Eochongye 1beonji is a sashimi restaurant on Bandalseom island in Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi, run by a chef with 30 years of Japanese-cuisine experience. On a family visit we ordered seasonal conger eel sashimi, whole steamed squid and a kids' pork cutlet from the kiosk on the table, and the conger eel was chewy yet soft, turning sweeter the longer you chewed it. With a kids' menu as well, Eochongye 1beonji works well for a family meal out on Bandalseom.

Exterior of Eochongye 1beonji on Bandalseom island

The weather's been so nice lately that I went out to Bandalseom island with my family for some fresh air, and since I wanted to enjoy a plate of fresh sashimi looking out at the sea, we visited Eochongye 1beonji. This place was already known as a famous sashimi restaurant among locals on Bandalseom, and after visiting in person, I could see why it's so popular ✨ It's run by a Japanese-cuisine chef with 30 years of experience serving up all kinds of seafood dishes, so I went in with high expectations.

A fresh seafood restaurant on Bandalseom island in Ansan

From the moment you step into Eochongye 1beonji, the clean atmosphere makes an impression. What stood out most was the tank, kept meticulously clean every single day — being able to see the fresh seafood with your own eyes gave me even more confidence. Freshness is the thing I care about most when visiting a sashimi restaurant, and just looking at the state of the tank here told me how well things are managed. That's probably exactly why so many people recommend it as a top sashimi restaurant on Bandalseom 😊

Eochongye 1beonji isn't just a place that sells sashimi. Everything felt carefully prepared so you can enjoy fresh, seasonal seafood at its best — even more satisfying. With a variety of dishes suitable for visiting with kids too, I thought it would make a great spot for a family meal out!

How to eat live-fish sashimi at its best

Above the kiosk was a guide on how to enjoy live-fish sashimi even more 🐟 It said to first try the sashimi plain, without dipping it in anything, to taste its natural flavor, and then dip it in soy sauce or vinegar-chili paste (chogochujang) according to preference afterward. Eating it this way let me really appreciate the texture and flavor of the sashimi, and it reminded me once again that with fresh live-fish sashimi, the natural taste itself matters most 😊

Is Eochongye 1beonji good value?

After enjoying the fresh sashimi and all the different dishes, the prices were satisfying too,,👍 Sashimi prices can feel pretty steep these days, but considering the freshness and quality, Eochongye 1beonji really felt reasonable. Being able to be satisfied with the taste, the freshness, and the price all at once made it even more memorable. That's probably why I saw so many repeat customers there. Thanks to all that, we got to have a really pleasant meal with the family.

The side dishes that come with the meal

While waiting for our order, we tried the side dishes (banchan) one by one — fresh wrap vegetables and side dishes that paired well with the sashimi came out neatly arranged ✨ Thanks to these appetite-boosting sides, our anticipation was already building before the meal even started. Eating a piece of sashimi followed by a bite of banchan made the whole meal feel even more abundant 💕

What does the seasonal conger eel sashimi taste like?

The first dish we tried was the seasonal conger eel sashimi. It came out neatly plated, glistening just from the look of it! The moment I picked up a piece and took a bite, the texture that spread softly in my mouth really stood out.

It was chewy and soft at the same time, and a nutty savoriness filled my mouth. What was especially appealing was the subtle sweetness that came up the more I chewed. Thanks to the conger eel's characteristic clean, nutty flavor, I kept reaching for another piece,, Dipping it lightly in ssamjang (thick seasoned paste) or soy sauce was good too, but personally, eating it plain to taste the natural flavor was the best. I could immediately understand why so many people recommend Eochongye 1beonji as a top sashimi restaurant on Bandalseom.

I put the conger eel sashimi on a fresh perilla leaf (kkaennip), added a little garlic and ssamjang, and ate it in one big bite — the crisp texture of the lettuce combined with the chewy, nutty flavor of the conger eel really filled the mouth 🥬✨ The more I chewed, the more the nutty flavor of the conger eel spread, and with the freshness of the wrap vegetables added in, it was completely clean and never greasy. After one bite, I thought, so this is why people wrap their food in lettuce! — it was that satisfying a combination 💛

Why the whole steamed squid is worth ordering

Next up was the whole steamed squid, which drew a gasp just from its appearance. A whole, plump squid came out, cut into pieces ready to eat, and it looked really delicious. Steamed squid can easily turn tough, but here they really nailed the boiling time!

The moment it went in my mouth, it chewed softly while still keeping that characteristic chewy texture of squid. The more I chewed, the more a sweet umami flavor came up, and dipping it lightly in chogochujang made it even more delicious. It was a texture and flavor only possible with fresh squid 😊 A dish anyone, from kids to adults, could enjoy without any worries.

The kids' pork cutlet our child actually finished

Whenever we visit with our kid, we always worry about what they'll eat, so having a kids' pork cutlet (donkkaseu) on the menu was really great! Fried to a golden brown, it looked like exactly the kind of thing kids would love just from the visuals.

Inside the crispy breading was moist meat packed all the way through, delicious even for an adult. The sauce wasn't too strong either, which was just right for kids. Thanks to that, our kid got to enjoy a delicious meal while we, the parents, could comfortably enjoy our sashimi. I could see exactly why so many families visit.

Seasonal conger eel sashimi, whole steamed squid, and even the kids' pork cutlet — everything at Eochongye 1beonji was satisfying. If you want to enjoy fresh seafood at a reasonable price, I definitely recommend visiting once. Thanks to the dishes served up personally by a chef with 30 years of experience and the meticulously managed fish tank, it was a place I could trust. If you're planning a trip to Bandalseom, be sure to enjoy a delicious meal at Eochongye 1beonji, a top sashimi restaurant on the island 😊 I'm planning to visit again next time to try yet another seasonal sashimi 💙
