Hongdae chicken pub with pasta takeout, Seoul: Goobne Red Road
In short
Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is a chicken pub on Jandari-ro 2-gil in Mapo, Seoul, between Hapjeong and Hongik University stations, with an open-air beer-garden feel. The order was Gochu Basasak (spicy crispy) boneless chicken and bolognese pasta to go: the chicken was savory rather than harshly hot, and the pasta still disappeared fast even after cooling on the walk home. Between the first-floor bar and the red second-floor seating, Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road is worth a return visit for beer in the room itself.

I was hunting for a good Hongdae chicken restaurant and stumbled on Goobne Chicken Red Road. If you're looking for that Hongdae terrace-drinking vibe, I'd recommend this place — here's my review.

I got the Gochu Basasak boneless chicken and bolognese pasta packed to go, and when I went to pick it up, I totally fell for the interior 😍

What the Hongdae Red Road branch looks like inside

It's near Hapjeong Station Exit 3 (8-min walk) and Hongik University Station Exit 9 (9-min walk). The place has such a hip, terrace-drinking feel that I was genuinely sad I couldn't sit down and enjoy it in the dining room.

It doesn't feel like a typical chicken restaurant at all — the lighting and table settings already have their own vibe. There's a bar area selling all kinds of drinks too, so it felt more like a stylish bar than a chicken shop.

Red second-floor seating with a retro feel
The second floor is also spacious and open. The red tables and chairs give off serious retro energy, a different charm from the first floor. There's enough of that semi-terrace vibe up here too.

If you want to properly enjoy that terrace feeling in this kind of weather, it's a perfect date spot too! Next time I definitely want to skip the takeout and sit down to enjoy it properly in-store.
Gochu Basasak boneless chicken: how spicy is it?

I'd heard Gochu Basasak was famous and had wanted to try it for a while, and eating it myself, I got why. Going by the name you'd expect it to be really spicy, but it's less intense than expected while still having real depth of flavor, so I kept reaching for more. The crispy batter held the spicy seasoning well, and being boneless made it easy to eat too.

Does the bolognese pasta hold up as takeout?

Honestly, I didn't expect much from spaghetti ordered at a chicken restaurant, but it was surprisingly delicious. Even slightly cooled from the trip home, it disappeared in no time. If it tastes this good cooled down, it must be even better fresh from the kitchen. I thought this was a chicken-only spot, but you could tell they put real care into the side menu too.
Marbling sauce vs Goblin sauce

You could choose between two sauces, Marbling and Goblin, and Marbling was more my style. Marbling is closer to a mild cheese flavor, while Goblin was a bit spicier for my taste.
If you're curious about both, I'd recommend ordering both and alternating between them — that way you don't get tired of just one and can enjoy it all the way through. Even with one order of chicken, choosing sauces is part of the fun, and now I want to try their other menu items one by one next time.
Final verdict on Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road

- 📍 If you're looking for a great Hongdae chicken restaurant, Gochu Basasak comes highly recommended — not overpowering, clean flavor
- ✔️ Bolognese pasta was an unexpected sleeper hit — side menu quality is Good!
- 👍🏻 Order both Marbling and Goblin sauce and alternate — you won't get tired of it
- 🍺 The bar sells a wide range of drinks, making it a great date spot for that Hongdae terrace-drinking vibe
- 🎁 Currently running an opening event — leave a review for a wedge potato or draft beer coupon
This time I had it as takeout, but next time I definitely want to sit down in the actual space and enjoy it properly with a beer. If you're after both a great Hongdae chicken restaurant and that terrace-drinking atmosphere, I highly recommend Goobne Chicken Red Road!
