No-break-time Chinese restaurant near City Hall Station: Huhugwan

Huhugwan is a Chinese restaurant a 5-minute walk from City Hall Station. On my way home from work nearby, late lunch with eggplant rice bowl and a beer — let's gooo!!

These days it's hard to eat at odd hours, so having no break time was such a plus haha. Lunch and dinner split around 4 PM, and it seems the menu differs a bit depending on the time!!

Is there a wait at Huhugwan? Straight in during the late afternoon

I came after peak time so I got in right away, but looking at the waiting board, they must have had tons of customers at lunch lol. If there's a wait, register and hang out in the waiting zone — turnover is quick given the menu, so you'll get in soon~

The vibe is so good?!! 🙏 A City Hall Station spot with strong Chinese-cultural-sphere energy lol. Great for solo dining, great for a work dinner, great when you're craving a trip abroad :)

It felt like a trip to Hong Kong or Taiwan, and the staff were so kind too lol.

I was alone so I sat at the bar table, where pickled radish, water, and utensils were already set up!

Ordering at Huhugwan is easy via QR code on your phone haha. There seem to be dinner-only menu items like braised pork belly, lamb chops, and hot pot!! They also have quite a few types of Chinese liquor, so it's a great City Hall Station spot to enjoy with drinks :)

What I ordered at Huhugwan: eggplant rice bowl and yurinchi

City Hall Station has quite a few good restaurants lol. Today I properly devoured eggplant rice bowl and yurinchi at a Chinese spot :)

They also gave egg soup, which was nutty and savory — appealing in its plainness lol.

Huhugwan's eggplant rice bowl: six fist-sized eggplant fritters

Huhugwan's eggplant rice bowl is crispy fried eggplant on warm rice, finished with a special sauce 🍆 A hearty bowl with a whopping six fist-sized eggplant fritters on top — seems like it'd be popular as an office worker's lunch lol.

You could adjust the spice in 3 levels — I'm bad with spicy food so I ordered the basic flavor, and it was delicious 👍 (Mala/sancho oil add-on also available!!)

Aren't these eggplant fritters seriously huge?! 🍆 Stretch your jaw and take a big bite — inside the crispy batter, the vegetable juice bursts out with soft, moist eggplant that's so nutty and savory :)

The mushroom-based bowl sauce was delicious — mixed with rice it's an absolute rice thief 🙏 Genuinely wanted more sauce lol. If refills were possible I could've eaten two more bowls of rice — this rice bowl is that good!

Piling on the big eggplant fritters, nom nom!! Pairing it with the yuzu pickled radish cuts through the richness completely~ The portion was pretty big but it was so good I cleared it all lol.

Small yurinchi in squid-ink batter

Huhugwan's small yurinchi adds color and depth with squid ink and uses tender chicken thigh meat, served with lettuce and tomato :) A visual on a totally different level from the usual yurinchi you see 👍 Just the smell alone made me drool, and pairing it with beer is amazing ٩( ᐛ )و

Even eaten alone, the fritter's crispy-outside-tender-inside texture paired so well with the sweet and tangy sauce — went great as a beer snack!!

Because it's made with chicken thigh meat, it was really moist and tender, which I loved lol.

Already delicious fritters plus fresh lettuce and tomato make it crunchy and sweet, even better ٩( ᐛ )و Good as a drinking snack, and good to order as a side to share too!
