Hwaseong butcher restaurant family dinner with T-bone steak: Morakmorak

In short

Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch is a butcher restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where diners choose their own meat. We celebrated my dad’s birthday with T-bone steak, pork jowl, pork belly, a generous self-service bar, and beef-bone-broth ramen. A great pick for a family meal with lots of cuts to try.

A spacious butcher restaurant for family meals in Namyang, Hwaseong

Among the meat restaurants in Namyang, Hwaseong, this was such a good one!! I visited Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang. It is at 70 Yeokgoljungang-ro in Namyang-eup, Hwaseong, open daily from 11:30 to 23:00, with last orders at 21:00.

Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang visitor information

The restaurant is really spacious, so it would be great for all kinds of gatherings and work dinners. Parking is available too, which made it easy to visit by car.

The space itself is roomy and there are private rooms, so it looked well suited to groups for family meals or work dinners. I saw lots of reviews from people who had visited for family meals, work dinners, and dates too. If you are looking for somewhere to eat meat in Namyang, it is worth trying near Hwaseong City Hall!

The fun of choosing your own cuts from the meat showcase

The first thing that catches your eye when you enter Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang, a meat restaurant in Namyang, is the meat showcase! There were so many choices, from beef to pork, that I spent ages deciding what to get, haha. These days, when I go out for meat, I prefer somewhere with not only delicious meat but also lots of cuts and sides to enjoy with it.

Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang in Namyang is a butcher restaurant where you choose the meat you want yourself, which makes it fun to pick according to your tastes.

There was a wide selection, from Korean beef and Korean pork to lamb, making it easy for everyone in a group to choose their preferred cuts. The best thing about a butcher restaurant is being able to see and select exactly the meat you want that day! Once you take your selection over, the staff pre-grill it for you, which was more convenient than grilling everything from start to finish at the table.

A generous self-service bar, complete with tortillas

Another thing I liked more than I expected at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang was the self-service bar. Along with the usual wrap vegetables and side dishes, there were many accompaniments that go beautifully with meat. You can grill bracken fern, and there was scallion kimchi, myeong-i namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), and all kinds of vegetables.

There were tortillas and sauces too, so you can fill them with meat and make taco-style wraps. It felt different when I wanted a change from eating meat the usual way! The table setting fee is ₩5,000 per adult, but the self-service bar has such a varied selection that it was great for trying a bit of everything.

This was a family dinner for my dad’s birthday, so we splurged on T-bone steak, haha. We chose pork jowl and pork belly to have alongside the T-bone steak.

They set out the basic table spread first. You can bring more side dishes from the self-service bar, and doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew), yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), and muksabal (acorn-jelly soup) were included with the table setting fee, so it did not feel like a waste at all! Even though the yukhoe was complimentary, the portion was generous, and of course it was wonderfully fresh coming from a butcher restaurant.

The muksabal was clean and refreshing, perfect for having in between bites of meat.

The tortillas were even better with meat inside, but they were tasty on their own too, with salsa and guacamole available! They made a nice little snack before the pre-grilled meat arrived.

The pre-grilled meat came out, and a staff member cut it to our preferred thickness.

A T-bone steak would have been difficult to cook perfectly if we had started from scratch, so I loved that it arrived deliciously pre-grilled.

They were expertly slicing the meat. Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang near Hwaseong City Hall has the advantage of cutting all the meat for you, so it is easy to eat.

They sliced it beautifully and arranged it beautifully again, which made our time at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang in Namyang-eup feel even nicer.

From T-bone steak to pork jowl and pork belly

Time to properly dig into the meat. Since the meat was pre-grilled, we only had to finish it at the table, which shortened the grilling time and made it easier to eat. Looking at the meat browning away, I wanted to eat it right away even while taking photos, haha. We did not overcook it, so the juices stayed in, then took a bite!

The T-bone steak let us taste tenderloin, ribeye, and striploin. Aging had made the flavor even better, and the thick cuts were full of juices. It was even more delicious with salt and fresh wasabi.

The beef was really delicious, but the pork was just as good. Both the pork jowl and pork belly were so juicy and tasty. They were also great with the scallion kimchi from the self-service bar.

Grilling bracken fern and wrapping it together with meat in myeong-i namul was a great touch too!

The doenjang-jjigae that day was so, so, so delicious. At Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang near Hwaseong City Hall, they do not just refill the broth—they refill the vegetables inside too. Such generous value! Along with meat, they also have meal dishes and items like naengmyeon (cold noodles).

Finish with beef-bone-broth ramen after the meat

There is naengmyeon, but ramen... you really have to have the ramen at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang.

After eating meat, you need a proper meal too, and I liked that this place has finishing dishes. In particular, the beef-bone-broth ramen was perfect for ending the meal with a hot bowl of soup after the meat. It felt like we had properly eaten a full meal rather than stopping at meat alone! Green onions and chili peppers were available at the self-service bar, so you can make the rich beef-bone broth pleasantly spicy.

Coffee and ice cream dessert after the meal

Coffee and ice cream were available for dessert too, so we could eat well right through to the end.
