You know those days when, instead of something intensely flavored, you crave a clean, hearty Korean table meal? Especially when eating with family or your parents, I find myself looking for somewhere that serves everything neatly, from the side dishes to the rice, rather than just doing one menu item well.

A home-style Korean set meal near Sinjungdong Station
This time, I visited Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang (김명주뜰안채밥상), Jungdong Branch, about a 3–4 minute walk from Sinjungdong Station. I was personally quite happy with this meal, so I wanted to introduce it to anyone looking for good Korean food in Bucheon.

For family meals and get-togethers
Personally, I thought this kind of restaurant would also work nicely as a place for a Korean set-meal gathering in Bucheon. The menu is centered on Korean food, so it is less likely to divide opinions, and it is great for a family meal because everyone can share a variety of side dishes. In particular, many parents prefer a warm table like this to Western food or meat when you take them out, which makes this an easy choice.

It seems like a nice place to visit when you want a proper meal in a relaxed setting, whether it is a gathering with friends, a meal with your parents, or a family outing. Its location close to Sinjungdong Station is another advantage if you are looking for a Korean set-meal venue in Bucheon.

The Tteuranchae Bapsang set with grilled mackerel
Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch focuses on Korean set meals that feel as comfortable as home cooking rather than flashy dishes. That day, I ordered the three-person Tteuranchae Bapsang set plus grilled mackerel. Seeing the table filled with food made me feel full already! I especially loved being able to try so many different side dishes in small portions—it was exactly my style as someone who normally loves Korean food.

Hwangmi rice cooked to order in a pressure cooker
One of the things I was most looking forward to here was the rice. Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch says it mills hwangmi rice (yellow rice) itself every morning, then cooks it right away in a pressure cooker once an order comes in. Maybe that is why each grain looked glossy and had a lovely chew, with a nutty aroma from the rice itself.
No matter how many side dishes a Korean set meal has, it is disappointing if the rice is not good—but the rice here was delicious, so I kept topping it with side dishes. There is just something about freshly cooked warm rice with one side dish at a time that captures the charm of Korean food. If rice quality matters to you when looking for Korean food in Bucheon, I think you will be very satisfied.

What about the 12 side dishes and cheonggukjang?
Another strength of the Tteuranchae Bapsang set is its variety of side dishes. It comes with 12 side dishes made with seasonal ingredients and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and the side dishes and cheonggukjang can be refilled without limit, excluding the main dishes. It was fun tasting a little of this and that, and overall the seasoning was not too strong, so it was easy to enjoy.
These days there are so many overly intense foods that this mild, home-cooked style felt even more welcome. Before you know it, spooning up rice topped with one side dish after another leaves your bowl empty... haha. So if you are looking for Korean food near Sinjungdong and a place to eat with your parents, I think it would be an especially good fit.

I definitely recommend adding the grilled mackerel!
I also really enjoyed the grilled mackerel we ordered as an extra. They say they use Norwegian mackerel, and I liked its thick flesh and mild, nutty flavor. Most of all, warm pressure-cooked hwangmi rice and grilled mackerel are a combination that is hard to get wrong.
Put a big piece of mackerel on top of freshly cooked rice and one bowl disappears in no time. The mackerel's savory, lightly salty flavor went so well with the rice, so if you come for a Korean set meal, I recommend ordering the grilled mackerel too.

For days when you crave mild Korean food
If I had to sum up Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch in one phrase, it would be a home-style Korean set meal where the rice is delicious. Rather than elaborately decorated food, it centers on warm rice and side dishes that seem like you could eat them every day without getting tired of them, which made it feel even more comfortable.
I was particularly impressed that it cooks pressure-cooker rice to order with hwangmi rice milled in-house, and the many side dishes and cheonggukjang made for a really filling meal.

With the grilled mackerel on the side, it truly felt like a proper meal! If you are looking for Korean food in Bucheon, a Bucheon Korean set-meal spot for a gathering, or Korean food near Sinjungdong, I think it is worth a visit. It is the kind of place I will think of again on a day when I crave clean, warm home cooking like this. 🍚🤍
