I've been craving meat like crazy lately, so I went for dinner with my friend Saenghwi at Deo Bareun Jeongyuk Sikdang Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Station Main Branch! It's right near Sinnonhyeon Station so it was easy to find, and the place was bigger than I expected with lots of tables — I saw quite a few groups and work dinners going on during our visit.

Best of all, we had Jeju black pork that day, and the quality of the meat was great, plus the staff grilled it for us, so we got to eat super comfortably 🤭

The dining room is quite spacious, so even with just the two of us it felt relaxed, and there were plenty of tables with bigger groups too. It's a meat restaurant that doesn't feel cramped, which made me think it'd work well for a company dinner or a friends' gathering!!

If you're looking for a comfortable spot to eat meat with a group near Sinnonhyeon Station, this is the place!

Menu and prices: what we ordered at this Gangnam BBQ restaurant

What we ordered that day at Deo Bareun Jeongyuk Sikdang Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Station Main Branch was Jeju black pork samgyeopsal (pork belly) 170g for ₩20,000, black pork gabrisal 170g for ₩21,000, nurungji (scorched rice) + doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) for ₩7,000, Hallasan soju + lemon + tonic water, and naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert.

We ordered one serving each of meat first and added things as we went. Meat needs a drink to go with it, so we ordered Hallasan with lemon and tonic water and made a simple hallatonic 🍋

Jeju black pork ogyeopsal, grilled for you by the staff

Black pork samgyeopsal, said to be sourced directly from Jeju Island! Watching it cook on the grill, the smell alone was already amazing hahaha

One thing I loved here — the staff grill the meat for you. At a lot of meat restaurants you want to enjoy the food but end up flipping and grilling nonstop, which breaks up the conversation. Here the staff handle the grilling perfectly, so we got to sit back and chat while eating comfortably.

Chewy texture and a rich, savory taste — exactly the flavor for anyone who loves Jeju black pork!

A well-cooked piece of black pork samgyeopsal

With the well-cooked samgyeopsal, the first bite had that chewy skin texture along with the savory meat flavor, and the more you chewed the more the umami came through! I really felt like black pork has to be samgyeopsal 🤭

Why we added black pork gabrisal (pork collar) too

Grilled black pork gabrisal

We also ordered a serving of black pork gabrisal, and since the texture was different from the samgyeopsal, eating both together was even better. It had a nice chewiness without being too tough, and a savory flavor that kept us reaching for more.

If we'd only had the samgyeopsal between the two of us, it might have felt a little lacking — I'm glad we also ordered the gabrisal. Personally, alternating between the two kept the flavors from getting monotonous and made the meal even better!

Banchan, myeoljeot dip and wasabi at Deo Bareun Jeongyuk Sikdang

Basic side dishes served alongside the meat
Close-up of the banchan dishes

I usually think of banchan (side dishes) at a meat restaurant as just something to have alongside the meat, but here the side dishes were tasty across the board, so I kept picking at them while eating the meat too. The meat itself was great, but when the basic side dishes are this good, it just bumps up your overall satisfaction :)

Spoon and chopsticks served soaked in hot water
Cutlery setting on the table

One thing that quietly impressed me! Instead of just setting the spoon and chopsticks on the table, they brought them out soaked in hot water. It's probably for hygiene before use, but seeing that kind of attention to detail was nice :) It seems like a small thing, but when they take care of you like that it just puts you in a good mood haha. That level of thoughtfulness made me even more satisfied 🤍

Dish of myeoljeot, ssamjang, wasabi, and salt sauces

They also had a good variety of dipping sauces ready! From myeoljeot to ssamjang, wasabi, and salt, you could pick whatever suited your taste :) I'm someone who absolutely needs wasabi with meat hahaha, so I loved topping the meat with it, and it was as good as ever. The myeoljeot was also really tasty! Dipping the meat in it added a salty, savory umami that had me reaching for it way more than expected hahaha

Nurungji with doenjang-jjigae for 7,000 won

After eating meat for a while, we started craving something warm and soupy, so we ordered the nurungji and doenjang-jjigae set for ₩7,000. You just can't resist doenjang-jjigae with rice after eating meat...hahaha

The savory doenjang-jjigae paired with nurungji was the perfect way to wrap up after the meat. Sipping hallatonic while eating meat and finishing with nurungji made it feel like a proper full dinner!

Hallatonic, and free corkage on Saturdays and holidays

A homemade glass of hallatonic
Hallatonic served alongside the meat

That day we ordered Hallasan with lemon and tonic water and made our own hallatonic. Adding lemon made it refreshing and clean, which worked well alongside the fatty meat. Take a bite of meat, a sip of hallatonic, and your mouth feels clean again — it's a combo that keeps you coming back for more 😂

I heard that corkage is completely free on Saturdays and holidays 👀 A lot of people like to bring their own drinks when eating meat, so a perk like this is genuinely great. We ordered Hallasan and tonic water and drank it as hallatonic that day, but next time I'd love to bring a favorite drink from home and pair it with the meat haha. Especially for weekend gatherings or company dinners, being able to enjoy corkage without any burden feels like a real advantage :)

Finishing with cold naengmyeon

No matter how full you are, you have to have naengmyeon after meat, right...? So we finished off with an order of mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)! The cool noodles cleaned up the greasy feeling in our mouths after all that meat, and we walked out having eaten thoroughly right to the end hahaha. Between the two of us we had meat, stew, nurungji, and naengmyeon — I thought I was going to burst...
