While looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Daeja-dong, Deogyang-gu, I stopped by Mansori Sogogi Gukbap. The menu is pretty varied — shabu mandu jeongol (dumpling hot pot), duck bulgogi, sogogi gukbap (beef soup with rice), Hamhung naengmyeon, galbitang, and more — so there's something for every taste. I ended up going with galbitang, Hamhung naengmyeon, and steamed dumplings. Let's get into the review~!

Side dishes and the self-serve banchan bar

Before the food arrived, the basic side dishes came out. Kimchi, onions, pickled onions, and other banchan that pair well with gukbap or galbitang were served neatly.

There's also a self-serve bar off to the side, so you can help yourself to more banchan if you run out. It was nice being able to use it freely whenever I needed more.

After a short wait, the food we ordered arrived!

First, the bibim naengmyeon — mixing the noodles well into the tangy-sweet sauce really woke up my appetite! Ordering bibim naengmyeon also gets you a side of warm broth, so it was nice being able to sip that alongside the noodles.

Galbitang loaded with big short ribs

And the standout dish of the day was definitely the galbitang! The amount of rib meat was seriously insane. It arrived bubbling hot in a stone bowl, packed with big, chunky short ribs.

What I liked most was how rich and deep the broth tasted. Pulling the tender rib meat off the bone into the hot broth and eating it with rice was so satisfying. The broth is what makes or breaks a galbitang, and this one was rich yet clean, so my spoon kept going back for more. The ribs also had plenty of meat on them, so the portion was satisfying too.

Handmade steamed dumplings: 4 meat, 3 kimchi

Last up were the steamed dumplings, and they turned out to be handmade — rare to see these days! There were 7 total, made up of 4 meat dumplings and 3 kimchi dumplings.

The meat dumplings had a chewy wrapper with a moist filling packed with meat and vegetables — savory and light at the same time. Dipping them lightly in soy sauce brought out the filling's flavor even more. The kimchi dumplings were spicier and had more umami than the meat ones, with the crunch of kimchi adding texture, so they were clean and not greasy — great to eat!
