Kid's birthday cake with dairy cream at a Gangnam cake shop: Chef Cho
In short
Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam is a fruit cream cake shop in Sweet Park on basement level 1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam in Seocho, Seoul. For her child's birthday the writer browsed the showcase — Real Mango Rose, Pistachio Forest, Fig Field, Dark Choco Forest — and chose the Peach Berry Cake No.1 topped with peach and strawberry, carried home in a cooler bag. Made with 100% dairy whipped cream, the cake balanced tart fruit, light cream and a moist sponge.

For my little one's birthday I was trying to figure out what cake to get, and ended up going to Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam ☺
Where is Chef Cho in Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam?
🎂 Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam 📌 B1, Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam, 176 Sinbanpo-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul
Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam is located in Sweet Park on the basement floor of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam! It's connected to Express Bus Terminal Station too, so it was easy to get to by public transit 😆

What makes Chef Cho's cakes different? 100% dairy whipped cream
Chef Cho is famous as a cake shop in Gangnam 🍰 What stood out most was that they use 100% animal cream, fresh fruit delivered daily, and the skill of a craftsman who's been making cakes for a long time.

I also learned that Chef Cho has been listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey for several years 💗🍰 Blue Ribbon is a widely referenced Korean restaurant guide, and anyone who loves cake has probably heard the name! The fact that 23 years have gone into this place was quite impressive — it's not just somewhere selling pretty cakes, but a cake shop in Gangnam with a long history of cake-making 🤎

Visiting the actual Chef Cho store, I could see it's been featured as one of the 'Four Cake Kings' on the show Master in the House 👑 Since it's been known as a cake shop for so long, it felt less like a brand that just moved into Shinsegae Gangnam and more like a Seoul cake shop that's been baking for years 🥰
A look through the Chef Cho showcase

The moment I saw the Chef Cho showcase, I just went "wow~" 🫢💗 There were so many fruit-based cakes that I got total decision paralysis..🥲

Real Mango Rose Cake
The Real Mango Rose Cake, which looks like a rose 🌹 Mango is arranged delicately like rose petals, so visually it really looks like actual flowers on top!🌹🥭 If you love mango, this cake is going to catch your eye 😆 When I was buying mine, there were other people picking up the mango cake too. If you're after a more special-looking cake than a plain one, this design would look really pretty — recommended!

Pistachio Forest Cake
Pistachio Forest Cake 💚 A lot of people love pistachio desserts these days, so if you like that nutty pistachio flavor, this one's worth recommending! The green color gives it a totally different vibe from the fruit cream cakes 🍃

Fig Field Cake
The Fig Field Cake, which is adorable just from the name — figs are piled generously on top, so it looks like a little fig field transplanted onto a cake 💕 If you love the mild sweetness and soft texture of figs, this visual will get to you..🤧 With ripe figs piled on generously, it feels a bit calmer and more upscale compared to the brighter, more colorful fruit cakes! So it could also be a great gift for a parent's birthday, a housewarming, or an anniversary — anywhere you want something calm and refined 💗

Dark Choco Forest Cake
For chocolate lovers, there's the Dark Choco Forest Cake 🤎 It's a totally different category from the fruit cream cakes, so if you're visiting with family members who love chocolate, everyone can pick according to their own taste!

The cake I chose: Chef Cho Peach Berry Cake No.1
And finally, the one I picked — Peach Berry Cake No.1 ❤

True to its name, it's a cake topped with both peach and strawberry, and the soft pink of the peach blending with the red of the strawberry made the whole cake look really vibrant 🍓🍑 It's my kid's birthday cake, but honestly I might've been more excited than she was... not a secret ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

They packed it in a cooler bag for me, so I could bring my Peach Berry Cake home safely 💗
A birthday table at home, set with one cake

Even in person, Chef Cho's cake is gorgeous 🍑💗 With peach and strawberry piled generously on top, the mood was already lively without needing to decorate the table much more ✌🏻

Especially with all that fruit piled on top, it photographed really beautifully 📸 Taste matters, but I can't give up on visuals either..!!! ❤
Once I stuck the candles in and took a photo, it definitely had that birthday feeling going 😆💗 Happy birthday to my little one, I'm celebrating the hardest~~~💋💗💌
Cutting the Peach Berry Cake: inside and taste

Layers of cream and fruit stacked together made the cake look really appetizing when cut. And since it's real fresh fruit, not canned, that was even better 👍🏻

The soft cream blended with the moist sponge, and with the strawberry's tartness added on top, the whole thing felt like a light, not-too-heavy fruit cream cake 🤍

I'm someone who thinks the flavor of the cream is what really matters in a fruit cream cake.. Chef Cho uses 100% animal cream, so it ate much lighter and cleaner, and I could really taste the balance of fruit tartness + light cream + moist sponge all working together 🩷
Chef Cho Shinsegae Gangnam: the verdict
This time I actually visited and bought from Chef Cho, a cake shop in Seoul 👩🏻🍳 The Sweet Park location on B1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam itself is really accessible, and being connected to Express Bus Terminal Station makes it easy to carry a cake home too! For birthdays or anniversaries you want a pretty cake, and Chef Cho has plenty of cakes loaded with fruit that photograph beautifully, which made it even more satisfying 💗 With peach and strawberry piled on generously, the Peach Berry Cake looked bright and cheerful from the start, and it was a fruit cream cake where soft cream, moist sponge, and tart fresh fruit all came together 🍑🍓 If you're looking for something a bit more special for a birthday or anniversary, go check out Chef Cho 🍰🤍
