Group dinner pork BBQ with bibimbap and naengmyeon in Gwangju

Today I suddenly craved samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) so bad!!! I went back to Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch, a place I'd enjoyed before. I went as part of a sponsored campaign, but it was genuinely so good I ended up ordering more and paying for it myself — this is a 100% real review, and I'd absolutely go again!

Sangnok Hoegwan has a wide parking lot right in front, so parking is easy! Easy parking is honestly the best 👍

The inside of Sangnok Hoegwan Taejeon Branch is fairly spacious, with plenty of tables! It's big enough for group parties, so it seemed perfect for a group dinner in Gwangju, Gyeonggi.

And the menu is genuinely such good value..! Pork, beef, seafood, and even meal dishes — everything's covered, and the prices are so reasonable!!! Plus you can order in small amounts by the 100g, which is a huge plus if you go for group dinner samgyeopsal in Gwangju, Gyeonggi and want to try a bit of everything. Last time I had beef, but today I wanted pork, so I went with pork.

What's in the side dishes and self-serve bar

Today I wanted to eat a variety of things, so I ordered a hangeun (about 600g) of pork!

True to a charcoal-grill place, the charcoal is properly laid out — charcoal grilling really has its own charm compared to grilling over regular charcoal briquettes haha.

The appetite-boosting side dishes were set up too haha. That seasoned lettuce salad was really delicious — tangy enough to perk up your appetite, so I got a refill.

Besides the basic side dishes, there's a neat self-serve bar in the middle of the restaurant, so you can grab exactly as much side dish or vegetable as you want. The self-serve bar quality is great, nothing missing, and best of all — there's soybean powder, so dipping the pork belly skin in it is fantastic 😋 There was also pineapple, perfect to grill after the meal.

Hangeun of charcoal-grilled pork — how was the heat?

The hangeun of pork came out generously portioned! It included samgyeopsal and various other cuts, which was great for trying a bit of everything.

And here's the thing about Sangnok Hoegwan being real to its roots — when you order soda, you don't get a can, you get a whole bottle... Total old-school honesty, and it's only 2,000 won. Places like this that keep it real really deserve to do well.

I started with the samgyeopsal — the meat quality was good and the heat was really strong too, strong enough that you had to pay a bit of attention while grilling!

Meat grilled over charcoal — no need to say more... The smoky flavor really came through and it was so, so good. The side dishes were clean and tasty too, so the lettuce wraps kept coming nonstop! The meat was already great with just a dip in salt, but the wraps really elevated it — the side dishes were seriously delicious, ugh.

Side dishes: naengmyeon, bibimbap, doenjang stew

You can't have meat without some carbs, so I ordered the bibimbap (mixed rice bowl). I didn't expect much since it was only 3,900 won, but it came fully loaded with seasoned vegetables and even egg!

And here's the 2,000 won doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). It was generously filled with ingredients and had a strong mushroom aroma that made it delicious — a perfect match with the bibimbap.

I was already so full, but naengmyeon (cold noodles) is a must, so I dutifully finished off a bowl of mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) too... Every menu item was generously portioned for the price and paired perfectly with the meat.

And on top of that, they even give out free slushies hahaha. Finishing the meal with one of these to cleanse your palate makes for a truly perfect meal!

How does it fare as a group dinner spot in Gwangju, Gyeonggi?

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan-gui Taejeon Branch is a place I'd genuinely enjoyed and paid for myself before, and revisiting confirmed it's the real deal. The pork grilled over charcoal was beyond words, so delicious, and the good-value side dishes were also really tasty.
