My parents had visited several times and recommended Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu (고려물총칼국수) in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, so I went there for a weekday lunch with my family. We ordered the three-person set with kalguksu, boiled pork, and dumplings.

What were parking and the weekday lunch atmosphere like?

There was dedicated ground-level parking at the restaurant building, which made it convenient to visit by car.

The restaurant looked fairly large even from a distance, so it was easy to find despite it being my first visit.

Customers kept coming in even at weekday lunch. The restaurant was spacious, and I thought it would work well for families or larger groups dining together.

What is in the three-person set, and how much is it?

Before ordering a set at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu

The three-person set we ordered was ₩49,000. It came with two servings of kalguksu, cabbage dumplings, and pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork. Being able to share all three dishes made it a good choice for a family meal.

What did the pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork taste like?

The pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork is made by boiling Grade 1 Korean pork belly. The meat was tender and moist.

It also paired well with the kalguksu, and I liked the combination even more with geotjeori kimchi (fresh kimchi).

What is the order for eating mulchong kalguksu?

The kalguksu includes dongjuk clams delivered directly from Gochang, Jeonbuk, and mussels delivered directly from Tongyeong, Gyeongnam. There was a generous amount of shellfish.

You pick out and eat the shellfish first, then add the kalguksu noodles.

After adding the noodles, they say setting a five-minute timer and waiting makes them chewier.

After eating the shellfish and cooking the noodles, the broth seemed to become richer.

How were the cabbage dumplings and kalguksu noodles?

The cabbage dumplings are dumplings wrapped in cabbage rather than regular dumpling wrappers. They were mild and nutty, and one of my favorite parts of the set.

To my taste, they felt less heavy than dumplings made with flour wrappers. I was pregnant and craving mild food rather than strongly seasoned dishes, so the cabbage dumplings suited my appetite well.

The kalguksu noodles are reportedly house-made, kneaded and aged fresh each day. When I tried them, they were chewy with a good texture.

Can you add fried rice at the end of the meal?

After finishing the kalguksu, you can make fried rice with the remaining broth.

What my family especially liked was that we could add fried rice for free. During our visit, we added one more serving to the included fried rice and had it cooked.

Still, since it is provided free of charge, I think it is best to add only as much as you can finish.

Were you satisfied with it as a family lunch?

Sharing kalguksu, boiled pork, and dumplings, then finishing with fried rice, made for a filling lunch. It is a place I would think of when looking for somewhere to have a relaxed meal with family.

I was also satisfied with the spacious restaurant, convenient parking, and friendly staff service.
