These days central Haenggung-dong is packed with people whether you go on a weekday or weekend, so I've been on the hunt for somewhere a bit quieter and more relaxed haha~
So this time I went to a hidden view spot on the outskirts of Haenggung-dong, the Hwaseong Fortress-view café 'Caffeine Focus'! Let me tell you about how I got to enjoy the quiet alley atmosphere unique to Haenggung-dong along with the wide-open view of Hwaseong Haenggung Palace and the sky.

A quiet entrance away from the bustle of central Haenggung-dong
Walking a little away from the busy heart of Haenggung-dong, the clean, aesthetic building of Caffeine Focus catches your eye~ From the entrance, neatly kept plants and an Instagram mirror welcome you, and it matches the quiet neighborhood atmosphere so well that my mood instantly lifted before I even walked in!!
The quiet of the outskirts is really charming for a cozy date course where you can talk one-on-one :)

Nothing beats bread fresh out of the oven!! For the autumn season, they also released a new walnut chestnut buckwheat ciabatta.
Too full from lunch, so dessert only at Caffeine Focus
I really wanted to try the ciabatta too, but I'd just eaten a huge bowl of kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at Dasun Kalguksu beforehand so I was stuffed haha... So I went 'simple' and ordered vanilla bean Basque cheesecake, an iced americano and an iced decaf americano!

The 3rd-floor fortress view was full, so we tried the 2nd floor
A whole 3rd floor!!! As a proper view spot, you really need to claim a good seat fast~ Why? Because the view is insane, hah. Take a look
The real highlight of this place is the panoramic view unfolding beyond the 3rd-floor windows!
Through the big window frame you can take in the classic fortress walls of Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, the low tiled roofs, and the wide-open sky all at once — it felt like looking at a hung ink-wash painting or landscape. Of course it was fully packed, so I came down to the 2nd floor, ugh.

The 2nd floor is great too of course!! There are plenty of outlets set up, making it perfect for working or studying with a laptop.
There's no crowded commercial building blocking the view at all, so you can fully enjoy the quiet, peaceful atmosphere that's unique to Haenggung-dong!! It's the perfect view spot where you can just sit there blankly staring out the window and feel your stress melt away ☁️☁️
How the vanilla bean Basque cheesecake and decaf americano tasted
I thought only the view was pretty, but I was surprised all over again by the depth of the coffee and dessert! When you take a bite of the Basque cheesecake with a fork, the slightly bitter, smoky aroma unique to the burnt Basque exterior hits you pleasantly first~
And the inside has a soft, moist texture that practically melts the moment it's in your mouth. The rich, dense creaminess of the cream cheese is totally my type!! Then with the first sip of the iced americano, a nutty aroma and heavy body filled my mouth, and the acidity wasn't too sharp — clean enough that anyone could enjoy it, a fresh bean flavor with no downsides ❤️🤍 The decaf americano kept the same deep bean flavor too, and I couldn't really tell a big difference!
I finally made it to the 3rd floor hahahaha, isn't it so pretty!!
It's a gem of a place where you can treat your eyes to Hwaseong Haenggung Palace and the wide-open sky beyond the window, and treat your mouth to rich coffee and dessert! If you're looking for a relaxed, quiet date course or a hidden café with a gorgeous view in Haenggung-dong, I'd strongly recommend Caffeine Focus~
