Peanut strawberry cookie at a Suwon café: Jeong Ji-young Coffee

On a rare day off, I came to Haenggung-dong with Ongppeuli and stopped by a familiar old favorite — Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters! They're all over Suwon — at the kt baseball stadium, in Starfield Hwaseo — so out of pure habit and love for the taste I always get, I ended up here again haha.

Ta-da, we stopped by Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters, famous as a must-visit café on Haengridan-gil!

Why you order in the basement at Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch

The Haenggung main branch is a four-story building, but you order in the basement (B1). When we first arrived, I honestly thought, "Wait... is this actually the café?" haha. The building has four floors, but you suddenly head down to B1 to order! Being pretty used to the underground world, I confidently walked right down.

Instead of a freshly built, sleek modern café, it feels like an old building kept just as it was — and honestly that made it even more striking and hip. Something about the entrance already felt unusual, haha.

The rough concrete exterior and modest signage mean you could easily walk right past it without noticing. Once inside, following the ORDER sign leads you to the order area — and there was so much to look at even before ordering coffee!! The ceiling has exposed pipes and the concrete looks intentionally unfinished, giving it an industrial vibe. But there were also cute little props scattered around, so it never felt cold or bare — quite the opposite.

Which desserts and goods are on display

In the B1 order area, desserts and goods are displayed together. What really caught my eye was the desserts...♥ From Basque cheesecake to lamington, American cookies, fresh fruit sando, and even Matilda cake — the variety was bigger than I expected. Cookies and honey rusk were displayed separately too, and the packaging was so cute it was hard to just walk past, ㅠㅠ.

I wanted the choco-covered cake, but since I'd already overeaten at lunch, I let myself off the hook this one time. Not next time though!!! Mark my words!!!

On one side there was a pile of goods too — mugs, glass cups, T-shirts. It felt like I'd wandered into a little goods shop mid-café-visit, haha. They were even selling a kt Wiz uniform? I almost bought one!! Seeing the price snapped me right back to reality. There were even cute birthday candles for sale, so browsing item by item made the time pass surprisingly fast.

What the upstairs window seats are like

We picked one coffee, chamomile tea, and a peanut strawberry cookie! After ordering, we headed upstairs, and honestly I liked the atmosphere upstairs even better. The old concrete walls and pillars were left as they are, paired with wood-tone furniture and green lighting — an oddly perfect combination. Best of all, the windows are huge, so the sunlight pours in beautifully! The window seats even give you a nice open view outside, perfect for zoning out over a cup of coffee, haha.

Seating was more generous than I expected, and there were long tables too, so it seemed like a good spot for groups.

And finally, coffee and cookie time ☕️ The coffee was delicious, but the peanut strawberry cookie we ordered alongside it turned out to be right up my alley. Take a bite of the sweet cookie, then a sip of coffee... you just can't resist that combo, haha. Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters isn't really the kind of place where you rush in for a quick coffee and leave — it's a café where exploring the space itself is half the fun.

From the handwritten menu board to the vintage audio system, the variety of goods, and the desserts — this deliberately-undecorated-yet-decorated mood was really charming. If you're looking for a slightly different kind of café in Suwon, or you love a vintage, hip atmosphere, it's worth a visit at least once :)
