In short
Shashlik Masan Branch is a dog-friendly charcoal skewer restaurant in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon. We shared pork neck and chicken thigh shashlik in a partitioned seat, then finished with cheese fried rice. Verdict: a comfortable pick for dinner with a dog.

I visited Shashlik Masan Branch (샤슬릭 마산점) in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, a great place in Masan to eat with your dog. I’ve also rounded up a tip about the partitioned seating at the end.

Where is Shashlik Masan Branch?
The address is 2F, 7 Deokdongnam 1-gil, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam. It is about 1 minute from Changwon Nursing Hospital, 6 minutes from Hyeondong Jungheung 3rd Complex Apartments, 7 minutes from Gapo High School, and 11 minutes from Kyungnam University.
Head into the alley with the yellow balloon signboard. There is also a large parking lot, so parking should not be a worry! The posted closing time was 22:00. I recommend checking the opening hours and break time before you visit.

Is it okay to bring a dog? My partitioned-seat visit
We visited with our dog and were shown to a seat with partitions. It meant we could relax without worrying about the other tables. It was by the window, too, so the natural light was nice and the view was not bad either.
The rooftop area even had a fire pit and hammocks, so I’d love to sit there next time when the weather is nice. There was also a notice about an event where you can roast marshmallows while enjoying the fire. There are separate restrooms for men and women, and reservations, Wi-Fi, and group dining are available, so keep that in mind.
Menu

The menu had big, appetizing photos for each item, which made choosing fun. Under the photos were short notes on the cuts used and each item’s features, making it easy to pick. For example, the chicken thigh shashlik was described as a flavor everyone can enjoy, while the lamb shoulder rack said it uses young lamb, so there is no gamey smell.

How were the pork neck and chicken thigh shashlik?
We ordered pork belly and neck shashlik for ₩12,500–₩25,000 and chicken thigh shashlik as an add-on for ₩12,500–₩25,000.
They came grilled directly over charcoal, and the smoky flavor was seriously good. Pineapple, broccoli, and king oyster mushrooms came with them, so we could have some vegetables too. The pork neck was tender and savory, while the chicken thigh was moist rather than dry. The outside was lightly charred with that charcoal flavor, and the inside was cooked through while staying juicy.
Personally, I highly recommend ordering both and sharing. The flavors are easy for anyone to enjoy, so first-time visitors should be able to order without hesitation. The menu also had Special Shashlik (₩25,000), Lamb Shoulder Rack Shashlik (₩40,800), and T-bone Shashlik, 100 g (₩24,900). Next time, I want to try the Special Shashlik too.

Try the sauces in these combinations
There were about six sauces set out on the table: pickles, capers, barbecue sauce, garlic sauce, spicy sauce, and mustard sauce. Switching up the sauces with each type of meat kept it from getting tiring, and I just kept eating. Personally, I liked the garlic sauce combination best. Try mixing and matching to your taste!

Finish with cheese fried rice
After finishing the meat, we wrapped up with cheese fried rice. They added rice and cheese to the remaining grill and fried it for us, and the crispy browned cheese bits were especially delicious. It was just the right amount for two people. If you go for shashlik, I definitely recommend trying the fried rice too.

Checklist before you visit
- If you are bringing a dog, it is a good idea to ask in advance whether dogs are allowed and how the seating can be arranged.
- For parking, use the large lot inside the alley with the yellow balloon signboard.
- Group dining is available, so I recommend asking about a reservation in advance if your party is large.
That was my Masan shashlik dinner, enjoyed comfortably with my dog. The best part was being able to relax without feeling self-conscious thanks to the partitioned seat. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a dog-friendly restaurant in Masan~
