Korean BBQ private room for 6 in Yongsan, Seoul: Byeoljin Hwarogui

In short

Byeoljin Hwarogui is a campsite-themed charcoal grill Korean BBQ restaurant on Hangang-daero 77-gil in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, a short walk from Namyeong Station. A group of six booked a private room through Naver and ordered the 750g premium Korean pork platter, the Korean beef doenjang (soybean paste) hot pot and 550g of smoked dak-galbi (spicy grilled chicken), with staff grilling the meat along with olives and garlic. The atmosphere and the food at Byeoljin Hwarogui were both strong, though the call bell and the dak-galbi sauce were slow during the busy dinner rush.

Byeoljin Hwarogui near Namyeong Station: a private room booked for six

Byeoljin Hwarogui (별진화로구이) is a charcoal grill Korean BBQ restaurant on the 1st floor of 11 Hangang-daero 77-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, near Namyeong Station. Six of us were looking for a place for dinner together and ended up at Byeoljin Hwarogui near Namyeong Station 😊 We got a small discount through Superchart, and since there were six of us, we booked a private room in advance through Naver!

When we arrived, they checked our reservation and led us straight to the room. The whole place is decorated like a campsite, so the vibe was great from the moment we walked in 👀

Since there were six of us, we'd booked a room, and it was definitely nice being able to chat and eat comfortably in a private space.

There was even a separate coat rack in the room so our clothes wouldn't smell like grilled meat, and I liked that the table was already set up with our name under the reservation 👍

Side dishes and a 350ml water bottle per person

The banchan (side dishes) at Byeoljin Hwarogui included potato salad, tomato salad, stir-fried kimchi, myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), and shredded scallions with sauce. Even though it's a BBQ place, it felt less like a typical Korean BBQ restaurant and more like actually camping 🏕️ Once we sat down, the side dishes came out one by one, and they all went well with the meat overall.

One thing I personally liked: the water! Instead of a big shared jug, they give each person their own 350ml bottle. I found this surprisingly convenient haha. Everyone just drinks their own, which felt more hygienic and meant we didn't have to keep refilling cups 😊

Since we booked through Naver, we also got a complimentary steamed egg service! Nibbling on that while waiting for the meat kept our hands busy haha. If you're booking through Naver, it's worth checking for events like this beforehand.

What six of us ordered, starting with the 750g pork platter

With six of us there, here's what we ordered.

  • Premium Korean pork platter 750g
  • Korean beef doenjang hot pot
  • Smoked dak-galbi (grilled chicken) 550g

And the meat was grilled for us by the staff!

We started with the premium pork platter. The staff kept an eye on the meat and grilled it for us, so we could just focus on eating haha.

The meat was tasty overall, and one thing that stood out was that they grilled olives and garlic alongside it! Garlic and meat go together without question, but grilled olives with meat turned out to be a surprisingly good combo too 👀

I'd never thought to grill olives together with meat before, so it was interesting how well it worked.

Fresh lemon added for lemon soju

We also ordered extra lemon 🍋 We squeezed fresh lemon into our soju, and it turned out to be way more delicious than expected haha. It was my first time ordering fresh lemon separately at a Korean BBQ restaurant, so it felt a bit novel. If you like soju, lemon soju with your meat is worth trying!

Korean beef doenjang hot pot and 550g smoked dak-galbi

Since meat alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, we ordered the premium Korean beef doenjang hot pot — it had plenty of vegetables and a generous amount of meat, so it wasn't just broth. Taking a warm spoonful of soup between bites of meat worked really well 😊 It was also a good dish for sharing among several people!

Then the smoked dak-galbi (grilled chicken) 550g. Being smoked gave it a different feel from regular dak-galbi — a subtle smoky aroma and tasty meat, which we enjoyed 👍

That said, this dish was a bit disappointing toward the end — the staff didn't grill it for us this time, and no sauce came out with it. When we asked, "Is there a sauce for this?" they brought it over then. It might have been because of the busy hour, but it would've been nicer if it had come prepared from the start 😅

Finishing the meal with mul-naengmyeon (cold noodles)

There was a Naver review event offering complimentary naengmyeon (cold noodles), so we ordered mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)! Cool noodles at the end of a meat meal are the perfect way to finish haha. Funny how we all said we were full but still made room for the noodles 😂

What was disappointing at Byeoljin Hwarogui?

The food was tasty overall, but service on the day left a little to be desired. Since it seemed pretty busy while we were there, staff didn't always come right away when we rang the bell, and requests for more meat or side dishes took a bit of time too. Especially with the last dish, the dak-galbi, it was a little confusing that they didn't grill it for us and the sauce wasn't ready right away. It could well be down to the busy hour, but I'd hope for a bit more improvement on this front next time.

Is Byeoljin Hwarogui worth a room booking for a group dinner?

What stood out most about Byeoljin Hwarogui was being able to enjoy meat in more of a campsite atmosphere in the middle of the city, rather than a typical Korean BBQ restaurant feel. Especially for a group of six like us, booking a room made it comfortable to chat while eating, and having staff grill the meat made things easy too.

Beyond the meat itself, the doenjang hot pot and smoked dak-galbi were both tasty, and little touches like grilled olives and fresh lemon that you don't usually see at other Korean BBQ restaurants made it fun 😊 That said, since it was busy the day we visited, bell service, refills, and prep for the last dish were all a bit slow, which was a letdown. Still, the taste and atmosphere were good, and it seems like a great place to go when you want to eat meat with a group in a place with good vibes. If you're visiting as a group like we did, I'd recommend booking a room ahead of time! 👍
