Wondang-dong soy crab restaurant with only one crab shell: Deodeo

In short

Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil is an all-you-can-eat soy crab, marinated crab and crab stew restaurant in Wondang-dong, Deokyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Arriving at noon on a Sunday meant a walk-in wait of about 40 minutes for the 24,900 won per person refill set, and the refilled crabs were still packed with meat, though the prized crab shell came only with the first plate. The soy crab at Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil is not too salty, so even the meat on its own eats light — worth the wait.

I suddenly had a huge craving for soy crab, so I looked up soy crab spots in Ilsan and ended up at Deodeo Ganjanggejang, where you can eat as much as you want 🦀

Since it's not just soy crab but also marinated crab and crab stew all in one, I saw a lot of reviews mentioning long weekend waits. We went on a Sunday lunchtime too, and sure enough, there was a wait.

Today I'll walk through our weekend visit in detail — the wait time, parking, price, the basic spread, and how the soy crab and marinated crab actually tasted :)

Where is Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil, and where do you park?

Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil is located in Wondang-dong, Deokyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, and there's a parking space set up right in front of the restaurant. It was fine to visit by car.

That said, at busy times like weekend lunch, the parking lot fills up and some cars end up waiting. Personally, I felt the parking spaces weren't marked with clear lines but rather spaced out with trees, which could make it a bit tricky for less experienced drivers. If you're not confident parking, like me, I'd recommend arriving a bit earlier than the weekend peak.

How long is the Sunday noon wait at Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil?

When I arrived at Deodeo Ganjanggejang exactly at noon on a Sunday, the front of the restaurant was already packed with waiting customers. This place doesn't use a remote queue system like Catch Table — it's walk-in only, so I had to check my number as soon as I arrived.

That day I waited about 40 minutes before finally getting a seat. ((If you're visiting as a group, they say if you mention it in advance, they'll seat you at a group table as soon as one opens up according to your number.))

What we ordered was the soy crab + marinated crab + crab stew all-you-can-eat set, 24,900 won per person. ((Rice is sold separately.)) As soon as we sat down, the staff quickly set up the basic side dishes.

The table filled up generously with sides that go well with crab — mayo flying fish roe, raw laver, diced radish kimchi, and seasoned cucumber.

Soy crab that is not too salty, and refill crabs still full of meat

Soy crab served as the first plate

Honestly, with all-you-can-eat crab I was a little worried that refills would have less meat the more you ordered. But once we actually tried it, even the refill crabs at Deodeo Ganjanggejang were packed with meat.

The one drawback was that the crab shell only came with the first plate — after that, refills were mostly just the crab bodies

Which made me regret not saving mine a bit longer, haha.

Picked-apart soy crab meat

The soy crab had that signature savory saltiness, but instead of being harshly salty, it leaned into a mellow umami flavor, so eating the crab meat alone without rice never felt overwhelming.

Putting rice into the crab shell, adding a bit of crab meat on top, and mixing it all together — ah, that's exactly why people eat soy crab.

Even while calling it a rice thief, I kept picking out crab meat piece by piece haha.

How spicy is the marinated crab at Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil?

The spicy marinated crab was also packed with meat and did an excellent job as a rice thief.

If you handle spicy food well, you'll fall for the sweet-and-spicy sauce completely. I can't handle spice well, so it was a bit much for me ㅜㅜ I think it would be too spicy for young kids.

Rather than eating crab the same way the whole time, being able to switch it up kept things from getting boring, so I just kept eating.

Right when you start to get a little tired of the crab, a spoonful of crab stew broth hits the spot. The spicy, warm broth gets you ready to go back to eating crab lol.

If you put soy crab into the crab stew and let it cook, that's basically an all-you-can-eat crab stew hack — what do you think of my greedy little tip.

They also give you a serving of ramyeon noodles! We ate until we were completely stuffed.
