Gangseo seafood restaurant with separate sashimi mulhoe: Suseong Susan

A mulhoe specialist by the Sindong seaside

I visited Suseong Susan (수성수산), a specialist in mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup) and hoe bibimbap (rice mixed with raw fish), near the seaside across from the second Buyeong Apartment complex in Sindong 🙂

Parking and the exterior

There is a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, and although it is not technically a parking lot, people also seemed to park in front of the shop. It appears to be temporarily permitted at lunchtime.

There are fish tanks outside too, so you can tell that the fish is prepared right away.

Possible waits and the self-serve bar

There were lots of diners inside when we came in 😗 They said there can be a wait during peak hours. Even the head of Gangseo District Office has stopped by 😃

Mulhoe is sold from March through October, while yellowtail is sold from November through January—and they said they catch the yellowtail themselves 😄

There is a hand-washing area on one side, with a self-serve bar beside it. You can make your own seasoned sauce there, and there was chojang (sweet-spicy vinegar sauce), soy sauce, wasabi, and more. There are four- and two-person tables, with room for roughly 60 people to dine at once. Every menu item is available for takeout.

Menu choices for a visit with children

I liked that you can order abalone porridge when visiting with children who may not be able to eat raw fish well.

Ordering the three-fish assorted and half-and-half mulhoe

We ordered the three-fish assorted mulhoe and the large halibut-and-flounder half-and-half mulhoe.

I had once added somyeon (thin wheat noodles) at the beginning at another place, only for the noodles to freeze and taste really bad. It was nice that they explained it so kindly here, so I could enjoy it more deliciously 👍🏻

You can order extra items too. The amazing part was that steamed rice, somyeon, and broth can all be refilled for free 🙌🏻 I added another serving of somyeon too, haha.

It came as a proper full table with banchan (Korean side dishes), abalone, and miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) too 👍🏻

Another thing I liked was that the sashimi came separately. It was great to taste the sashimi on its own before eating the mulhoe 👍🏻

I ate one abalone first, then added the rest to the mulhoe, haha. The broth was properly slushy, so it was incredibly refreshing 👍🏻

The three-fish mulhoe set was the same as the half-and-half mulhoe, except that the fish selection was different.

This three-fish set includes halibut, striped mullet, and flounder.

The seaweed soup was made with beef.

When you add the sashimi to the slushy broth, it is so refreshing, sweet, salty, and packed with umami—this is why I eat mulhoe, haha. Adding somyeon midway through makes it even better.

My final thoughts on Suseong Susan mulhoe

Suseong Susan, a great spot in Sindong, Busan, has convenient parking and neatly served individual portions, so it is good even for a group visit. The separate sashimi arrangement felt fresh too 👏🏻 If you want to enjoy fresh mulhoe and hoe bibimbap at reasonable prices in Sindong, how about Suseong Susan? 🙂
