Clam-chive pancake and makgeolli at a Busan Korean restaurant: Darijip
In short
Darijip Jaecheopguk is a 30-year-old Korean restaurant in Geumsa-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan, reopened with jaecheopguk (clam soup) as its new signature dish. Two diners shared the clam soup set and emptied two bowls of rice with banchan such as water kimchi, thick doenjang, braised mackerel and salted seafood, while older regulars nearby paired clam-and-chive pancake with Saengtak makgeolli. Darijip Jaecheopguk is a good stop for a hot bowl of soup after walking the Hoedong-dong trail.

I visited Darijip Jaecheopguk, a restaurant that had been operating in the same spot in Geumsa-dong, Busan for 30 years and recently reopened with a new signature menu.

The broth is amazing^^
How to get to Darijip Jaecheopguk in Geumsa-dong, and where to park
Darijip Jaecheopguk is located at 1 Gongdan-dong-ro, Geumsa-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan. By subway, it's 200m from Geumsa Station Exit 3 toward Seokdae Bridge. By bus, get off at Seogeum Jigudae stop.

For parking, use the public lot under the Geumsa overpass across from the restaurant. During lunch hours (11:30-13:00) you can also park right in front of the store. The parking area was spacious, which was really nice.
The restaurant is closed every Monday.

Inside Darijip Jaecheopguk: 30 years in the same spot, and the seating
As you'd expect from such a long-running local spot, the place had a warm, nostalgic feel!

The dining space is split into three separate areas and the restaurant is spacious, so it seems like it would be great for group visits too.

As soon as we sat down, the owner brought us sungnyung (roasted rice tea). The nutty, delicious sungnyung is self-serve!!!!!!!

Darijip Jaecheopguk's menu: clam-and-chive pancake with Saengtak makgeolli
Darijip Jaecheopguk's signature dish is jaecheopguk (clam soup)^^ I noticed the elderly diners around us were having clam-and-chive pancake with makgeolli.

A full table of homestyle banchan at Darijip Jaecheopguk
None of the side dishes at Darijip Jaecheopguk were overly seasoned — each one was clean and tidy, tasting exactly like the food a grandmother would make, the kind you keep reaching for.

Water kimchi, young radish kimchi

Ganjang doenjang (thick soybean paste), braised tofu

Braised mackerel, bibimbap vegetables & fried egg & seaweed

Kimchi (the freshly made kimchi is so good.)

Three-color seasoned vegetables

Kelp, cabbage wraps, salted seafood

The salted seafood was so~~~ good that wrapping bites in cabbage was a lot of fun.

I mixed the doenjang into my rice, picked flesh off the mackerel to wrap in a leaf — the grandmother's-recipe taste was so~ delicious. I finished a whole bowl of rice on the side dishes alone.
The clam soup set for two: how did the jaecheopguk taste?
The clam soup set for two. At last, the jaecheopguk arrived. Time for round two of eating. I asked for an extra bowl of rice, took a sip of the broth, and fell in love :) I was floored > <;
Then I happily mixed the three-color vegetables into my rice.
Served piping hot, the jaecheopguk had a broth that was refreshing and clean, the kind that settles your stomach. The clam's distinct light, cool flavor really came through, and spoonful by spoonful, I ended up finishing the broth completely. Wow~~~ it tasted rich and deep even without ordering the extra-strong version. I sprinkled on some pepper to taste.
The jaecheopguk was delicious, but the side dishes that came with it were just as memorable. Between the banchan, the rice, and the soup, I had two bowls of rice total. I ate until I was thoroughly, satisfyingly stuffed.

Clam-and-chive pancake after walking the Hoedong-dong trail
And there's another dish I have to recommend alongside the jaecheopguk — the clam-and-chive pancake. Many of the mothers and fathers who seemed to have just walked the Hoedong-dong trail came in to eat and enjoy the clam-chive pancake with a beer. It seems like a perfect stop to fill up when you're hungry after walking the Hoedong-dong trail🍺
Good food is great, but sometimes it's the warm, human-hearted restaurants that stay with you longer. Refreshing, clean clam soup, and the comforting banchan that tastes like a grandmother's cooking! And above all, the generosity of the grandmothers running the place was truly the best. I left feeling good even on my way out the door after the meal. The food was delicious, but it was the warm, human atmosphere that made it even more memorable😊
Walk the Hoedong-dong trail → get hungry → head to Darijip Jaecheopguk → a bowl of clam soup + clam-chive pancake + a glass of makgeolli. This route sounds pretty great too^^
