Braised mackerel and clam set for two in Geumsa-dong, Busan: Darijip
In short
Darijip Jaecheopguk is a Korean restaurant specializing in jaecheopguk (clear freshwater clam soup) on Gongdan-dong-ro in Geumsa-dong, Geumjeong, Busan, run in the same spot for 30 years. The jaecheopguk set for two filled the table with clear clam soup, rice mixed with seasoned vegetables, braised mackerel and mul-kimchi (water kimchi), and pouring a little clam soup over the mixed rice to moisten it was the best part. Darijip Jaecheopguk is an unshowy, home-cooked kind of meal, and worth returning to for a family dinner.

This place has been in business at the same spot for 30 years, and now it's welcoming customers back with a new menu.

They said they're starting fresh as a jaecheopguk specialty restaurant. Having stayed in the neighborhood for so long, the place gave off a warm, familiar feeling right away.
On a day when I suddenly craved jaecheopguk and wanted a comforting home-style meal, I went to check it out.

Inside the spacious, comfortable dining room
The interior was spacious with plenty of tables, making it a great spot for a family meal.

Group dining, reservations, and takeout are all available, and amenities like a baby chair and separate men's/women's restrooms were well set up.
It had the comfortable feel of a Busan local restaurant that locals stop by casually, which suited the warm atmosphere well.

The clam menu at Darijip Jaecheopguk
The menu is built around jaecheopguk.

There's the jaecheopguk set, rich clam soup, clam rice bowl, seasoned clams, and clam chive pancake, plus clam soup available for takeout.

The rich clam soup is said to have a stronger broth packed with clam meat.

We went with the most basic option, the jaecheopguk set, ordered for two.

Since it was for two, there was the fun of sharing several side dishes.
A meal that starts with sungnyung (toasted rice tea)
After ordering, they first brought out warm sungnyung (scorched rice tea).

Its gentle, nutty flavor settled my stomach before the meal.
I was already in a good mood before the food even arrived.

What comes with the jaecheop set meal for two
When Darijip Jaecheopguk's set menu arrived, the whole table filled up.

Alongside the main clam soup, there was a real variety of side dishes — several vegetable namul, braised mackerel, seasoned tofu, kimchi, mul-kimchi, and cabbage-and-seaweed wraps.

A big bowl held bean sprouts, seasoned radish, and a fried egg — meant to be mixed with rice.
Rather than overly flashy, it felt like a heartfelt home-cooked table.

The jaecheopguk set alone made for a hearty Korean meal in Geumjeong.

The side dishes at Darijip Jaecheopguk
The namul were great mixed into the rice bowl, and the seaweed and cabbage wraps were clean and light with the seasoning sauce.

The crisp, cool mul-kimchi refreshed the palate between bites.

The seasoned tofu and kimchi were also good paired with rice.

Every dish felt made with care, so my bowl of rice disappeared quickly.
Clear jaecheopguk full of freshwater clams
Plenty of finely chopped chives sat on top of the clear broth.
A spoonful of the broth was clean and refreshing, with clams coming up in the spoon too.
The fragrance of the chives and the savory depth of the clams blended well, making for a mild, soothing flavor.

Mixed rice with vegetables, moistened with clam soup
I put rice into the big bowl, added the various namul and doenjang (soybean paste), plus gochujang to taste, and mixed it all up. Adding a little clam soup on top kept it from being dry and made it wonderfully moist. The nutty doenjang and namul came together with rich savory flavor, and the bowl alone was filling.

Braised mackerel spooned over the mixed rice
The hidden star of the jaecheopguk set was the braised mackerel. The chunky mackerel and radish were deeply soaked in red seasoning, going great with rice. The seasoned radish was so soft it was practically a rice thief on its own. Adding a bit of mackerel flesh on top of the vegetable mixed rice was an amazing combination. If you visit Darijip Jaecheopguk, definitely order the jaecheopguk set.
Good for family meals and group gatherings
With such a spacious dining room, it looked great not just for family meals but for gatherings and group dining too. Next time, I'd like to try the seasoned clams as well. It's a place where you can feel both the warmth of an old-school Busan eatery and the ease of a Busan local restaurant. It also seemed like a nice stop for a warm meal after visiting Haeundae Arboretum. A good choice for families looking for a Korean restaurant in Geumjeong.

Final verdict on Darijip Jaecheopguk
I got to enjoy refreshing jaecheopguk, a variety of namul, doenjang, and braised mackerel all in one meal. The warmth of a restaurant that has stayed in the same spot for 30 years, combined with the new story of starting over as a clam soup specialist, made it an especially memorable meal. It's an unshowy, home-cooked-style meal made with real care, and I want to come back with family. If you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Geumjeong, enjoy a warm meal at Darijip Jaecheopguk.
