Today I visited Gatjidong Busan Jangjeon Branch, a great spot for a hearty meal near Oncheonjang Station! 🍚🧡 The menu is pretty diverse, from tonkatsu to udon, gyudon (beef rice bowl), curry, and even pasta, so it seemed like a good place to go when you can't decide what to eat!! I especially wanted to introduce this place to anyone looking for a good rice place near Oncheonjang, since you can freely help yourself to rice, soup, and side dishes at the self-serve bar :)

🚗 You can use the building's shared parking lot for free, but the space isn't very generous so it might be full. It looked full when we arrived, so we parked at the Oncheonjang Station north public parking lot instead and walked over — parking cost about ₩1,800 per hour!

Inside Gatjidong and how the self-serve bar works
🧡 A clean, comfortable dining room
Walking inside, the wood-tone interior gave it that cozy, comfortable feel typical of a tonkatsu place. The tables weren't cramped together, making it a nice atmosphere whether you're eating alone, with family, or on a date 😆 We actually saw families with kids eating there, and the signage mentioned baby chairs are available 👶🏻
🍚 Rice and soup at the self-serve bar are unlimited
One thing I personally really liked about Gatjidong! There's a self-serve bar set up on one side where you can freely help yourself to rice, soup, and various side dishes ❤️
Sometimes when you're eating tonkatsu you run a little short on rice, so it was nice being able to grab more ❤️❤️❤️ The soup was warm and there was even a creamy soup — great to have a bowl of before the food arrives 🤍
There were side dishes like kimchi, pickled radish, some kind of soy-pickled peppers, and ginger — just take as much as you'd like!
🥢 Cutlery and wet wipes already on the table
Opening the table drawer, we found chopsticks, a spoon, a fork, and even wet wipes all neatly set up :) Small detail, but it's a surprisingly convenient touch while eating! 👍
🚻 Restrooms inside the restaurant
The restroom is something I actually pay attention to when eating out, and at Gatjidong there was a clear restroom sign inside the restaurant, so it wasn't hard to find. Not having to go far outside the building was a nice point too, since you can use it comfortably even mid-meal :)

Half-and-half tonkatsu with mini udon
First, the half-and-half tonkatsu lived up to its name, letting you enjoy two styles of tonkatsu on one plate. The cutlets look pretty huge even just in photos, right?! 😆 Crispy on the outside with plenty of sauce on top, it went perfectly with rice.
They gave us an hourglass timer with the cheese tonkatsu, saying it tastes even better after waiting a minute! It really was so good,,,❤️
And I expected the mini udon to be really tiny given the name, but the portion turned out to be pretty decent!! 😆 It had several big pieces of fried tofu pouch, and the broth was warm and clean-tasting — a nice combo to have between bites of tonkatsu 🍜
Tonkatsu kimchi nabe udon: how spicy is it?
And the tonkatsu kimchi nabe udon I was secretly looking forward to! It comes out in a big bowl with kimchi, udon, and tonkatsu all together — if you like hot, spicy broth, I'd recommend this one 🔥 Having the tonkatsu sit in the broth gives it a totally different feel from crispy tonkatsu!
Gyudon (beef rice bowl)
Last up, gyudon (beef rice bowl)! This Japanese-style rice bowl is piled high with thinly sliced beef and topped generously with green onion ❤️ The seasoning isn't overly strong, more the kind of style that's easy to eat with rice, so on days when tonkatsu feels like too much, coming just for gyudon would be a good option too?! 😆
