What did I pick at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch in Yeonnam-dong?

This time I picked a whopping 8 breads at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch, garlic baguette included. Yeonnam-dong is full of cafés and good restaurants, but if you love bread, there's one place that catches your eye at least once!🤩 That's Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch🥖💛 It's well known on Yeonnam-dong bakery tours especially for its garlic baguette with that rich garlic flavor, so I agonized over what to get this time and ended up loading up on 8 kinds, hahaha

8 breads packed to go from Mandong Jegwa

The breads I tried were walnut, sweet potato, Ssuktteok Ssuktteok (mugwort rice cake bread), bacon ciabatta, kaya coconut, cucumber baguette, shrimp baguette and garlic baguette! Just from the names, many of them are a little different from an ordinary bakery, so choosing one by one was fun🥐 To start with the conclusion: the most memorable was, of course, the garlic baguette, and the surprisingly fun ones were the Ssuktteok Ssuktteok and the cucumber baguette!

Unusual breads at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch

I meant to buy just the garlic baguette, but this special lineup is exactly why you end up adding one thing after another!😍

What I especially liked was the sample bread the staff handed me while I browsed. I never planned to buy 7 breads, but as I tasted samples and put the ones I liked on my tray one by one, I ended up packing a whole load, hahaha

My first pick: Mandong Jegwa's garlic baguette🧄🥖

Mandong Jegwa's garlic baguette is the shop's signature: crispy outside, moist inside. You can't talk about Mandong Jegwa without it! With a rich garlic flavor plus a creamy sauce, it tasted much stronger than ordinary garlic bread.

The moist texture and strong garlic taste are the charm, and one bite shows why it's been named as Mandong Jegwa's signature for so long! If you can only pick one bread here, I'd recommend the garlic baguette first, no hesitation👍💗

If you like mugwort, try Ssuktteok Ssuktteok🌿

Mandong Jegwa's Ssuktteok Ssuktteok mugwort bread

Ssuktteok Ssuktteok is Mandong Jegwa's bread made with mugwort dough, topped with mugwort rice cake, bean powder and sliced almonds. It was the second most memorable one, and the name alone is fun, right! It has a charm that's clearly different from ordinary red bean or cream buns! The chewy texture felt like eating rice cake along with bread, which was especially fun!

If you usually like mugwort desserts, it's worth picking up once💚 Above all, the chewy texture makes it a distinctive bread you'll remember, hahaha

Sweet potato bread for gifting, like a nostalgic mambo bread🍠

I bought Mandong Jegwa's sweet potato bread as a gift, and friends and parents were all satisfied and raved about it💗 🍠 The nutty, sweet flavor of sweet potato was maximized in this bread.

It's packed with soft, moist sweet potato mousse with no empty gaps, which made me happy the whole time I was eating it🥰💕

Bacon ciabatta with great flavor🥓

Mandong Jegwa bacon ciabatta

Mandong Jegwa's bacon ciabatta is closer to a light meal than a snack. Sweet bread all the time gets tiring fast, so I picked the bacon ciabatta too! The plain, chewy texture of ciabatta comes with salty bacon and cream cheese(?) adding a mild flavor, hahaha. It's good with coffee, and even one piece on its own seems filling when you're a bit hungry!

Filling inside the bacon ciabatta

Plain ciabatta is good too, but the sample was so tasty that I put it straight on my tray, hahaha. If you're packing several kinds, I recommend mixing in one basic meal bread like this, hahaha

When you crave something sweet: kaya coconut🥥

Mandong Jegwa kaya coconut bread

Mandong Jegwa's kaya coconut is a dessert-like bread that adds the nutty, fragrant feel of coconut to the soft, sweet flavor of kaya jam. Just hearing the name brings sweetness to mind!☕️ It seems like it would go especially well with coffee, so it's a bread I think of as an afternoon snack!

If you like sweet breads it should suit your taste, and if you like the particular flavor of kaya jam, I recommend picking it up, hahaha

Cucumber in bread? The cucumber baguette, curious from the name🥒

Mandong Jegwa cucumber baguette

Mandong Jegwa's cucumber baguette was the one that piqued my curiosity most among this time's picks! Cucumber in bread is a bit unfamiliar in itself, so I wondered what kind of combination it would be, and I think having such unusual items is part of Mandong Jegwa's charm😆

I tried the cucumber baguette as a sample and it was surprisingly good, so I picked it up because I wanted my family to try it too, hahaha

If you like savory umami, the shrimp baguette🦐

Mandong Jegwa shrimp baguette

Mandong Jegwa's shrimp baguette is a baguette made with ground dried shrimp, with a special sauce added. It was another one that's a shame to skip at Mandong Jegwa, with an umami clearly different from a regular baguette!

If you prefer salty bread with a subtle seafood flavor over plain bread, you'll especially like it~

Nutty, mild walnut bread🌰

Walnut bread topped with walnut streusel

Mandong Jegwa's walnut bread is walnut dough topped with crunchy walnut streusel (soboro), an easy pick if you like nutty flavors, hahaha

The walnut's nuttiness and the crispy texture made it go well with coffee, and it's an easy bread to reach for, the kind anyone of any age would like~
