Jeongsan Beach omakase in Samcheok: soy crab sauce & fried rice
In short
Samcheok Bomulseom is an ocean-view bar right in front of Jeongsan Beach in Samcheok, Gangwon, built around a ₩25,000 seasonal omakase. The course ran from seafood stew, kimchi pancake and boiled pork belly to soy-marinated crab sauce, pork belly kimchi tofu and a truffle abalone-liver butter fried rice, plenty for two, and the 3-day-aged crab sauce had shells soft enough to make crab shell fried rice with. If you're staying at Sol Beach in Samcheok and want a meal outside the resort, Samcheok Bomulseom is the answer.

Looking for an omakase spot near Samcheok Sol Beach?
Samcheok is famous alongside Sokcho and Gangneung as a Gangwon travel destination. A lot of people staying at Daemyung Resort Sol Beach in Samcheok eat breakfast at the resort but search for lunch and dinner spots around Samcheok. This time I visited Samcheok Bomulseom, an omakase restaurant near Sol Beach.

Samcheok Bomulseom is right in front of Jeongsan Beach, so if you come during the day you can enjoy a gorgeous omakase meal with a view of Jeongsan Beach.
An ocean-view bar right in front of Jeongsan Beach
Located right at Jeongsan Beach, Samcheok Bomulseom is a bar/restaurant where you can enjoy fresh, seasonal seafood along with an ocean view. It's centered on a ₩25,000 seasonal omakase made with carefully selected ingredients every day, and they say abalone, octopus, giant octopus, scallops and more are served straight from the tank in the freshest possible state.
With its wide-open sea view and emotional atmosphere, it suits family meals, dates, a meal while traveling, or just a light drink — this is one of Samcheok's signature omakase spots. Being near Samcheok Beach and Jeongsan Beach also makes it easy for travelers to drop by. For good-value omakase and a fresh meal in Samcheok, Samcheok Bomulseom offers a special meal you can enjoy while looking out at the sea.
Seating: 1st floor group tables, 2nd floor window seats
The interior has a modern feel. The 1st floor is an open space suited to group seating, while the 2nd floor window seats have a nice atmosphere. Since that's where Jeongsan Beach is best seen, booking ahead lets you have a great date.

It's omakase, so the menu changes daily
Because Bomulseom is an omakase specialist, you never know what dish will come out. It'll just be delicious dishes suited to Samcheok, made with whatever's in season. In the kitchen, our food was coming together dish by dish.

First round: seafood stew, kimchi pancake, bossam
The omakase dishes started coming out. Seafood stew, kimchi pancake and bossam (boiled pork belly) all came out beautifully cooked.

Today's soup was doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). Bomulseom's soup is normally a refreshing mussel soup, but it was swapped for doenjang jjigae because they'd run out of ingredients. A bit of a shame, but the doenjang jjigae was tasty too. ^^

We started the meal with these first three dishes.

A feast table isn't complete without bossam. Put the well-boiled pork on a lettuce leaf, add a little chili and ssamjang, wrap it up in the lettuce — a moment that makes your mouth happy.
The kimchi pancake was also made really well. The whole balance is what makes or breaks a kimchi pancake, and between the crispy texture, kimchi that wasn't too salty, and well-timed cooking, this was, to me, a perfect kimchi pancake flavor. The seafood stew also had fresh ingredients and was well-seasoned. The kind of flavor that calls for both rice and drinks.

Second round: soy crab sauce and pork belly kimchi tofu
The second round of dishes arrived: soy-marinated crab sauce (ganjang gejang) and pork belly kimchi tofu. You could already taste it just by looking — colors and aromas that couldn't possibly taste bad.

The main dish is truffle abalone-liver butter fried rice
Samcheok Bomulseom's main dish arrived — abalone liver butter fried rice. This alone is reason enough to come to Samcheok Bomulseom. It was so good. When I asked later why it was so delicious, it turned out a lot of ingredients went into it, including truffle, one of the pricier ingredients.

Once everything was out, our table looked completely full. Plenty of food to spare even for two people. ^^

3-day-aged soy crab sauce, plus crab shell fried rice
Samcheok Bomulseom's soy crab sauce (ganjang gejang) was also delicious. It's aged for about 3 days and comes out with a mild, not-too-salty soy flavor that keeps you reaching for more. Crab sauce can be tough to eat when the shell is hard, but here the shell was just soft enough to eat easily.
They also bring out extra rice separately for making crab shell fried rice. A spoonful of crab shell fried rice, a spoonful of abalone liver butter fried rice, a spoonful of pork belly kimchi tofu.
The omakase meal at Samcheok Bomulseom was so good that we didn't even notice how late it had gotten.
If you're staying at Samcheok Sol Beach, try this at least once
