Yogurt highball and pork belly yakisoba at Mullae bar Akai Teppan

Akai Teppan is a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki teppanyaki bar near Mullae Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Today I spent a happy time with good side dishes and a highball at Akai Teppan, a well-known Mullae Station restaurant and Mullae bar for teppan cooking.

The vibe at Akai Teppan near Mullae Station
Store photos

This Mullae bar, Akai Teppan, is on the first floor — even from outside, the place looked really spacious. 아카이 (akai) means "red," and true to the name, the exterior had a stylish red accent.

This Mullae restaurant serves Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. Even the sign about the seafood-loaded yakisoba outside got my mouth watering before I'd even gone in.

There's a big menu board standing outside too. I saw the mouthwatering dishes on it and, as if hypnotized, said "let's go in here" and walked right in (I'm someone who takes menu photos very seriously).

Akai Teppan seems to be a hotspot in Mullae. Even though it was still fairly early for a drink, the place was already buzzing with quick movers who'd started early 😲

Okonomiyaki / yakisoba, teppan & nabe / side dishes, and there are also good-value set menus. Having all my favorite things gathered in one place, I felt like I'd truly found a great Mullae Station restaurant.
Basic side dishes: chicken leg-shaped crackers and hutgae tea
Basic side dishes

Chicken leg-shaped crackers came out as the basic side dish — nostalgic to have again after a while. Crunchy and sweet-salty, they were great for picking at before the food arrived, and kept my hand going back for more as a drinking snack!

It was also nice that they gave cold hutgae (Rhamnus) tea. Nutty and clean, it was good to sip between bites of teppan food, and getting hutgae tea at a bar felt extra welcome for some reason — the basic setting alone won me over at Akai Teppan!

Yogurt highball, ₩9,000 — what does it taste like?
Yogurt highball

Yogurt highball, ₩9,000 — I ordered this one because the name alone made me curious! With its milky-white look and a little herb garnish on top, it felt different from a typical highball. The sweet, smooth flavor unique to yogurt combined with the refreshing fizz of a highball, so the alcohol taste wasn't strong and it went down easy. Served ice-cold and packed with ice, it was sweet yet refreshing to drink.
It paired especially well with the salty, sauce-heavy okonomiyaki and yakisoba, cleansing the palate nicely 👍

Signature Akai okonomiyaki, ₩18,000
Akai okonomiyaki

Akai okonomiyaki, ₩18,000 — a signature dish made by layering and grilling cabbage, pork, bean sprouts, and soba noodles, finished with bonito flakes and scallions.

The Akai okonomiyaki is the signature menu item at this Mullae Station bar, Akai Teppan! Compared to typical okonomiyaki, the ingredients are more generous and the portion has real heft. Finished with a generous drizzle of okonomiyaki sauce and mayo, then piled high with bonito flakes and scallions!
The sight of the bonito flakes gently swaying was already mouthwatering 🤤 With one bite, crunchy cabbage and bean sprouts, chewy soba noodles, and pork all came together for a texture that was quite varied. On top of that, the sweet-salty sauce, the savoriness of the mayo, and the umami of the bonito flakes all combined for a flavor that felt completely full!

Scooping up several ingredients at once for a bite was the best way to eat it. I could see exactly why this is the signature dish — the Akai okonomiyaki! If you want to pair it with a highball, this is a perfect thing to order alongside 🥃🔥

Not your ordinary scissors — these had quite the striking look, and they cut through everything snip-snip, super satisfyingly cleanly. Perfect for cutting into Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
Pork belly yakisoba, ₩17,000, topped with a soft-boiled egg
Pork belly yakisoba

Pork belly yakisoba, ₩17,000 — a Japanese-style teppan stir-fried noodle dish where chewy noodles, crispy pork belly, crunchy vegetables and sauce all come together in harmony.

You can't skip pork belly yakisoba when it comes to teppan cooking! This Japanese-style teppan-fried noodle dish, made by stir-frying chewy noodles with pork belly and various vegetables, had the sauce's aroma stimulating my appetite the moment it arrived 🤤 The noodles soaked up the sauce well, ending up chewy, salty, and full of umami!

The pork belly, grilled crisp right on the teppan, was crunchy yet nutty and delicious. The crisp bean sprouts and onions mixed in gave it good texture and balanced out what could otherwise feel heavy from the pork belly and sauce. Popping and mixing in the soft-boiled egg on top made it even more delicious with the richness of the yolk added in 🍳

A dish where chewy noodles + crispy pork belly + crunchy vegetables + salty sauce all came together beautifully! Adding a sip of highball on top of that — yeah, this combination never fails 🥃
Wrap-up
Akai Teppan 🍻 A great place for freshly grilled, hot teppan dishes with a highball in hand 🔥 A spot where you can enjoy everything from okonomiyaki to yakisoba — recommended if you want tasty teppan food and a drink in Mullae 🥃✨
