Weekend morning rosé tteokbokki with fried squid in Ansan: Yum Bbokki

In short

Yum Bbokki is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. On a weekend morning visit with her husband, the writer switched the Pujimiyam 2 set to rosé and added Chinese glass noodles, cheese, fried squid and a Welch's drink, getting tteokbokki, fried food, rice balls and fishcake soup for around 20,000 won. Her verdict on Yum Bbokki: always add the cheese topping.

Yum Bbokki in Gojan-dong, Ansan: a weekend morning tteokbokki run with my husband

✨ Yum Bbokki ✨

Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) — usually a girl thing. My husband's slowly turning into a tteokbokki maniac because of me.

I heard there was a famous tteokbokki place in Gojan-dong, Ansan — how could I not go??? haha So I talked my husband into it and we rushed over on a weekend morning.

First off, the delivery orders alone... the offline tables were packed too, and I could tell right away this place was thriving.

Since it was my first visit, I wanted to eat well, so I read a bunch of reviews and put together what I thought was the ultimate combo. Just follow me and you'll eat well too.

I finally made it to Yum Bbokki, the famous tteokbokki spot in Gojan-dong. Seems like everyone but me already knew about it... Parking in Gojan-dong is usually tough, but luckily parking at Yum Bbokki was easy, which made the trip pretty painless.

Wheat, rice or fresh rice cake? Yum Bbokki's rice cake choices

Tteokbokki fans usually split into wheat-cake and rice-cake camps, but after three months of testing, they've been offering freshly pulled, chewy fresh rice cake since two months ago. As for me... whatever famous tteokbokki I'm eating in Gojan-dong, I always start with wheat cake first, then move to rice cake — so today I started with wheat cake too.

Yum Bbokki menu: why the set menus are the easy pick

✔️ Menu

There are single-serving up to 3-serving menus, plus set menus, so if you're not sure how to enjoy famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki at Yum Bbokki... depending on your group size, I'd recommend picking between the Silsogiyam or Pujimiyam sets.

So what did we pick > Pujimiyam2 set plus Chinese glass noodles + cheese. And we changed the flavor to rosé. Then added fried squid and Welch's. But... whatever tteokbokki you order, if you want to really enjoy it, you have to add what I added. At least the cheese, please, pleaseㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

There's even an official combo chart for famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki at Yum Bbokki, so it's worth checking too. It's shown in photos, so it's easy to choose.

Like me, people come here for dates in Gojan-dong, but it also seems popular with families. Kids apparently order the milder jjajang tteokbokki (black bean sauce) or cream tteokbokki... and honestly, I really wanted to try the jjajang tteokbokki too. The smell alone was insane.

Ordering at the Yum Bbokki kiosk: about 10 minutes to cook

You order at the kiosk, and since it's Yum Bbokki, it asks 'eat here-yam?' or 'takeout-yam?' hahahaha so cute. But true to a famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki spot, there were tons of takeout, dine-in, and delivery customers all at once. So many that I wondered — is tteokbokki really this popular a dish?

Since it takes about 10 minutes after ordering, you can grab utensils and small plates from the self-serve bar first. Ten minutes is nothing when good food's coming~?

What's on the self-serve bar at Yum Bbokki

✔️ Self-serve bar

At the self-serve bar you can grab pickled radish and broth. They said the broth is simmered fresh every day, but since we had fishcake soup as a separate menu item, we didn't grab the broth. Still, seeing how much care they put into the broth got me even more excited before eating this famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki.

✔️ 3-serving rosé tteokbokki

Wow... hahaha look how cute that cheese is. Is it even allowed for a famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki place to plate this cutely? At first I was confused, but it was the cheese topping I'd addedㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Who popped that adorable egg on top of the tteokbokki? Anyway, you absolutely must add the cheese. Once you add cheese, the richness of the flavor is on another level. I wondered if double cheese was an option... adding it double would've made the combo even better.

And since it's a 3-serving tteokbokki, three whole eggs go plop plop plop into it. A single serving only comes with one egg, and since the basic tteokbokki is only ₩3,900, it seems like a great spot for solo dining in Gojan-dong too.

The 3-serving tteokbokki basically comes with rice cake + fishcake + egg + vienna sausage, and once we added glass noodles and cheese on top, the bowl was overflowing. Our big-eater couple selves^^... they say it serves 3-4 people but we cleared it no problem, right? Also, the tteokbokki sauce has a slight curry flavor, but it doesn't leave a heavy aftertaste — really tasty. Apparently they make their own secret sauce in-house instead of using store-bought sauce.

The fried squid and other fried sides

✔️ Fried food

Fried food comes standard with the Pujimiyam order. You can also add extra portions. We just added our favorite — fried squid! You really can't have famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki without fried food, right??

✔️ Fishcake soup

A refreshing, spicy fishcake soup simmered forever with fishcake and radish. Loaded with fishcake tooㅋㅋ There's already plenty of fishcake in the tteokbokki, and even more in the soup — very generous portions.

✔️ Self-serve tuna rice ball

How much food is in the Pujimiyam set, and what does it cost?

The Pujimiyam set filled the whole table. Wow... it's genuinely a great deal. With extra toppings on the tteokbokki, and the set menu bringing rice balls, fried food, and fishcake soup too — all of this for around ₩20,000. Instead of coming with my big-eater husband, this would be perfect for 3-4 girlfriends to share — the portion is seriously generous.

Full table spread of the Pujimiyam set

The fried food came in pairs of two, so my husband and I each took one without cutting it, and just dipped the whole thing straight into the tteokbokki sauce. Oh man... this is it, this is it. The fried gimmari (seaweed noodle roll) especially was seriously good — it tasted so homemade I wondered if they make it themselves.

If you want famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki, you've gotta go to Yum Bbokki, right?? It's gonna be so good, right??

And now, the inseparable best friend of tteokbokki — 'Chinese glass noodles.' We added this as a topping too, and I remember it costing about ₩1,700, and they mixed it right into the famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki.

How to eat the egg in Yum Bbokki's tteokbokki, and the final verdict

The owner clearly knows their stuff — depending on how much tteokbokki you order, you get one egg or three, and it's an unwritten rule to crack the egg in half and mix the yolk into the tteokbokki sauce.

I know I've been gushing nonstop and it might seem suspicious, but a single serving is just ₩3,900, and even with a set menu plus extras, it starts from ₩10,000s. On top of that, toppings are cheap, portions are generous for the price, and the taste holds up too. There's just no way not to praise this place. If anyone wants famous Gojan-dong tteokbokki, I strongly recommend Yum Bbokki.
