I stopped by Ugly Tongue (어글리텅), a Songdo café I had been curious about while passing by. Its colors caught my eye, but I was most curious about the taste. After trying it, I remembered the Dongan Bibeop smoothie for its thick texture and restrained sweetness.

Introduction to visiting Ugly Tongue café in Songdo

Where is Ugly Tongue, and is parking available?

The address is 109, 160 Haedoji-ro, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, South Korea. One hour of free parking is available in the building basement, and the café was listed as regularly closed on Sundays.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

The interior was clean, with a metallic feel. The outdoor tables looked stylish, and the café was very tidy.

The interior gave me a cool impression, but the service was kind. There were chilled drinks as well.

The sky-blue Sangha Farm ice cream also caught my eye.

There is seating inside for eating and drinking in. Nearby are fitness facilities for barre, stretching, personal training, and more; with protein smoothies on the menu too, I thought it could be a good place to stop after exercising.

What is on the menu, and how do you order?

The smoothies were made to order. The menu listed the ingredients, which made choosing easier, and I decided after asking about the two items I had been curious about.

Alongside smoothies, there were coffee, tea, and ice cream, plus more filling choices such as sandwiches and salads. You can also order at the kiosk.

At the time of my visit, tea sets for Chuseok gifts were also on sale. I was told the tea bags were microplastic-free.

There was also information about a vegan-oriented philosophy, and the straws were not ordinary plastic straws.

Which smoothie did I choose, and what did it cost?

I chose the “Dongan Bibeop” smoothie, named Anti-aging, which cost ₩15,000. It contains mango and cherry, though the cherry color was more prominent.

The white part looked like a cloud, so it caught my attention even before I drank it. I had eaten a light brunch several hours earlier, so I had it as an afternoon snack when I was feeling a little hungry.

How does the Dongan Bibeop smoothie taste and feel?

It did not taste artificial to me, and it was not overly sweet. I enjoyed it without feeling as though I was putting up with the taste for health reasons. Its chewy, thick texture was especially memorable.

For years, I have made smoothies at home with kale, banana, apple, and coconut, and I have tried smoothies from several brands. Even compared with those experiences, this thick texture felt unfamiliar.

The texture was finely blended and smooth, yet also chewy and thick. It was not stodgy, and I could drink it well through the straw to the end without needing to stir it separately.

Was it filling, and would I want it again?

It was quite filling once I had finished it. I thought someone who eats small meals might drink it instead of a meal, though for me it eased my hunger for a few hours.

My stomach felt comfortable afterward. At ₩15,000, I was satisfied with the taste and texture, and the Dongan Bibeop smoothie is something I would like to buy again.
