What kind of BBQ restaurant is Matbaegogi near Nonhyeon Station?
Matbaegogi (맛배고기) is a BBQ restaurant near Nonhyeon Station where you can taste dishes from a Korean master chef, a certified master of Korean cuisine. You get premium Gangwon hanwoo at a reasonable price, and the collaboration with an art director gives it a classy feel, so I'd recommend it for a company dinner near Nonhyeon Station!
Matbaegogi location and parking
Matbaegogi is just a 2-minute walk from Nonhyeon Station, so it's really close! It's near Yeongdong Market, and parking is free. Free parking in Gangnam is rare,,

The exterior looked so sleek! There are two floors, and I ate on the first floor.

You can taste the cooking of a master chef of Korean cuisine here, and apparently they use Gangwon hanwoo that has won the Presidential Award premium certification three times in a row!
Inside Matbaegogi: atmosphere and private rooms

I was surprised by the upscale interior, from the waiting area all the way to the back. Apparently they worked with an art director to extend the beauty of Korean cuisine into the space. The mood is nice, so it would work for couples, family or friends too.
The space is clean and comfortable! There's group seating and there are private rooms, so it seems perfect for company dinners and get-togethers.
Matbaegogi menu and how to order

You order on a tablet, and there are hanwoo set menus and à la carte items. There's a separate lunch menu, so you can enjoy dishes made with premium hanwoo at a reasonable price. The wine list is varied too, and with free corkage you can bring the wine you want to drink! We ordered the Matbae special mixed set for two.
Matbaegogi side dishes and free extras

The side dishes (banchan) are really varied, so I felt full and happy even before the meat arrived!

First, the salt and sauces to eat with the beef.

We got seasoned napa cabbage, garlic, chili peppers, ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste), wasabi, plus green onion kimchi, white kimchi and minari (water dropwort) tofu. Every side was good, but the green onion kimchi was so delicious I kept reaching for it, and the tofu piled with minari was nicely nutty too!

The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) had a really rich, deep, savory broth! It was packed with tofu and mushrooms.
Free yukhoe bibim noodles and grilled pollock roe

Matbaegogi serves yukhoe bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles with beef tartare) as a freebie! Spicy, tangy noodles with fresh yukhoe was an addictively good combo, I'm crying.

They even give you pollock roe and grill it nicely on the grill plate. It went really well with the beef too!
Matbae special mixed set for two: what's in it and how it tastes

The Matbae special mixed set for two at Matbaegogi comes with sirloin, top blade and rib meat, and staff grill each cut for you in turn! It's certified premium 1++ Gangwon hanwoo, and you can tell the quality just from the marbling.
First up: sirloin and ddeoksim
The sirloin came first! The color of the meat alone is the real deal,, since they grill it for you, you get to eat it in the best possible condition.

They move the golden-brown sirloin over to you. They also cut the chewy ddeoksim (a springy beef cut) separately, so we could enjoy it as a special treat haha.

Deep beefy flavor and nutty juices burst in my mouth with the sirloin! It went well with salt, sauce or pollock roe, whichever I tried.

They also grilled zucchini, mushrooms and shishito peppers and cut them into bite-size pieces for us! The vegetables were grilled just right too.
Second: top blade, and the grill sits at the table's end so conversation is easy

Next was the top blade! A small thing I liked: the grill at Matbaegogi is at the end of the table, so you can chat comfortably with your group even while the meat is being grilled. That's one reason I recommend it for company dinners, get-togethers, family meals and dates.

The top blade looked absolutely gorgeous, grilled to perfection. It was melt-in-your-mouth tender with excellent savory depth.
Last: rib meat

The last cut was the rib meat! Matbaegogi grills the meat with real care and attention to detail.

The rib meat, chewy yet getting more mild and nutty the more you chew, was a great final cut, and the whole lineup of meat and side dishes was simply perfect.
