Yeongjong Korean restaurant with whole octopus pancake: Haesanggung

Where I live, there are so many great restaurants. Whenever I scroll through social media, I find so many places I absolutely want to visit at least once. Today, I want to share our visit to Haesanggung (해상궁), a Yeongjong, Eulwangri restaurant that is the best for octopus dishes. Haesanggung is somewhere I especially want to recommend to anyone who loves octopus dishes.

I had seen Haesanggung on social media, but I wanted to visit it even more after it appeared on TV. It was featured for its octopus table set in 2025, then for its spicy stir-fried octopus and octopus pancake in 2026.

Haesanggung, a popular restaurant in Eulwangri on Yeongjong Island, welcomes pets. When we visited, there was a couple dining outside with their dog, thanks to the comfortable outdoor seating! It is also in a great location for a meal after visiting Eulwangri Beach or Inspire.

Haesanggung also has tables for groups, so I think it would be nice to visit with a group if you make a reservation. There were lots of guests, but the restaurant was kept very tidy. We arrived at 11 a.m., and there were already so many people eating that we had to wait.

Since we had some waiting time, we looked around the restaurant. The indoor tables were nice too, but on a lovely day, it would be great to eat outside in the breeze!

One wall was completely covered in celebrity signatures, haha. Looking at all the little notes, it really seemed like a restaurant celebrities approve of too ^^

Haesanggung says its spicy stir-fried octopus is a nourishing dish with a flavorful, delicious heat, aged with 10 wholesome ingredients including chili powder and garlic, without any artificial capsaicin at all. I am not very good with spicy food, but I had been looking forward to this place, so I was going to try it haha.

We ordered the Haesanggung table set for two. The Haesanggung table set is configured differently depending on the number of people, so they say you can order for your party size and have a hearty meal!

The basic side dishes were bean sprouts, kimchi, and salad. Here is a great tip: do not add the bean sprouts to the spicy stir-fried octopus—mix them into your rice instead!! If you need more side dishes, you can pick them up from the self-service bar.

The first dish to arrive was the nakji han mari pajeon, a whole-octopus scallion pancake!! There really was one whole octopus right on the pancake!! Do you know how badly I had wanted to eat this pancake after seeing it at dawn...??ㅠㅠ

I have eaten lots of different pancakes, but this was my first time trying one with a whole octopus in it! And just because there was one whole octopus in it did not mean it was a tiny octopus at all!! Our Bada kept reaching for it because she found the octopus so fascinating~

So I let my 36-month-old try octopus for the first time. It was still chewy for a child to chew, but I wanted them to have a taste anyway haha.

A furrowed brow at the first taste of octopus... haha. After doing their own little octopus mukbang, the moment their favorite food came out, the octopus was tossed aside!

Yes... it was the haemul kalguksu, seafood knife-cut noodle soup! It had chewy noodles and a variety of seafood including scallops, clams, mussels, and shrimp. While my child ate the kalguksu, I took a spoonful of the broth. The broth was incredibly rich~ I kept reaching for just the broth with kimchi, haha.

Watching my son eat the kalguksu, I tried one bite too. Then he suddenly cried because I had eaten his food..;;;; He ate all the seafood kalguksu noodles by himself... I mixed the broth into turmeric rice for him, and he ate it so well! It is no secret that he ate more than Mom that day.

Haesanggung serves turmeric rice. You know turmeric is good for you, right~? At Haesanggung, you can eat healthy octopus and healthy turmeric rice too~ Haesanggung is such a great place to take care of your health~

Spicy stir-fried octopus with bean sprouts and turmeric rice

If you like spicy food, I recommend trying Haesanggung's spicy stir-fried octopus. I cannot handle spicy food very well, but it was okay when I mixed bean sprouts into the turmeric rice~

While I was taking care of our child's meal, Gomdori plated it nicely and mixed it up deliciously. The addictive spicy flavor meant Gomdori polished off a whole bowl!

Haesanggung was a place where we could properly enjoy octopus dishes. The whole-octopus pancake was especially memorable, from its appearance to its flavor, so I think I will remember it the next time I am near Eulwangri, haha. We visited with our child, and they ate the seafood kalguksu so well that our whole family had a satisfying, hearty meal. Next time, we are planning to return to try other dishes alongside the spicy stir-fried octopus 😊
