Day-trip drive lunch at a Cheonan crab restaurant: Huni Gejang

On a trip to Cheonan, I ate a gejang (marinated crab) set at Huni Gejang (훈이꽃게장), a well-known spot in Yuryang-dong! Gejang is one of my favorite foods, the kind I can't live without, and having it again after a while made it even more delicious 🫢💓

What are the parking and atmosphere like at Huni Gejang?

Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch has a roomy parking lot in front, and the inside is big, with glass walls that make it feel airy. We stopped by for lunch during a day-trip drive to Cheonan, at this Korean restaurant in Yuryang-dong!

When we arrived, there was a wide parking lot in front, so parking was easy right away (my partner, who takes parking very seriously, was already won over!)

It's quite large, so it never felt crowded, and the clean interior with glass walls felt cool and fresh. The day was a bit cloudy, but you could see the scenery outside clearly, so the mood was bright and nice too.

There are also group tables for 6-8 people here and there, so it looked good for group meals and family gatherings.

Huni Gejang menu and prices

The signature items at Huni Gejang are two gejang sets: the crab set at ₩25,000 and the roe crab set at ₩40,000. Everything else is add-ons and crab soup.

• Crab set (1 soy marinated crab + 0.5 spicy marinated crab + marinated shrimp + pot rice): ₩25,000
• Roe crab set (1 roe-filled soy crab + 0.5 spicy crab + marinated shrimp + pot rice): ₩40,000
• Extra soy marinated crab: ₩15,000
• Extra spicy marinated crab: ₩14,000
• Crab soup: Small ₩70,000 / Medium ₩85,000 / Large ₩100,000

A crab set with soy crab, spicy crab, marinated shrimp and pot rice for ₩25,000! The price is just so kind T_T! I wish they'd open a branch in my neighborhood! There were only two kinds of gejang sets on the menu, and everything else was an add-on. Expecting a true gejang place that focuses only on crab, we ordered!

Baby rice for ₩100 if you come with a child

What stood out at Huni Gejang was that you can order baby rice for ₩100, limited to one per table. It's great for eating out with kids in Cheonan, and feels kind of warm-hearted 🩷

A receipt review event that leads to donations for children who miss meals

Another thing that caught my eye was the receipt review event at Huni Gejang: when you write a review, you get marinated shrimp or spicy marinated crab, and a donation is also made for children who miss meals. I've never seen a receipt review event like this. Totally a kind-hearted shop 🥲🫢👍

How does the crab set at Huni Gejang taste?

For the crab set, side dishes like soft tofu, salted squid, seaweed stems and seaweed sheets are laid out first, and they already looked so appetizing! Sometimes there are lots of sides but not much worth eating, but here the sides are seriously delicious and come as standard, so you're excited even before the main arrives 😸✨

For the pot rice, I opened it, scooped the rice out, and poured hot water in,

and then the mains, soy crab and spicy crab, arrived, ta-da!

This is the crab set for two: 2 soy marinated crabs, 1 spicy marinated crab and 2 shrimp 💓 Served in clean white ceramic bowls, it looks even more upscale and appetizing.

Plump crab meat with a mouthwatering look! By the way, there's also a roe crab set packed with roe (I saw it served at the next table!), and it definitely looked even tastier. Next time I want to try the roe crab 🫢

I put on the provided plastic gloves and squeezed out the crab meat with all my strength, haha, then put it on the rice. It's good just like that, and good wrapped in seaweed too 👍 The soft crab meat filling your mouth is pure bliss ✨️

Even better if you're a spicy crab fan

I personally prefer spicy marinated crab, so I enjoyed Huni Gejang's spicy crab even more! Mixing rice into the sauce is heavenly too 👏👏👏 The portion looked small, but it was filling enough, and the taste was so good that it made for a happy lunch.
