Weekday mom-and-me lunch at Glory Works, a Sangdong Chinese restaurant
In short
Glory Works is a Chinese restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, a 5-minute walk from Exit 8 of Sangdong Station. Over a weekday lunch with her mother, the writer ordered jjajangmyeon (black bean noodle), jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and garlic tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork); the jjamppong broth was deep rather than just hot, generous with squid, mussels and small octopus, and rich enough to want rice stirred into it. The verdict: Glory Works is worth going back to, next time for the algoni (fish roe) jjamppong.

My mom and I had a Sangdong Station date today, and since it was almost lunchtime, I went looking for a good restaurant — and found a Sangdong Station Chinese place 🇨🇳 with amazing reviews. So here it is, right by Sangdong Station: Glory Works.

Whoa, Yantai gaoliang liquor 🍶 is buy-one-get-one here?! Already impressed right from the entrance haha! Anyone who likes drinks with their meal can't skip this 🤤
Where is Glory Works? Walking there from Sangdong Station
Glory Works is within a 5-minute walk from Exit 8 of Sangdong Station! Come out and just go straight~ super easy to find 👍
Inside Glory Works: the dining room and the self-serve bar

We went during lunchtime, and wow, Glory Works was already almost full. We nearly ended up waiting 😆 The inside didn't really feel like a typical Chinese restaurant — more like a regular restaurant 👍
I looked over the menu... maybe because I was hungry, everything looked delicious... They said the garlic tangsuyuk 🥩 and jjamppong 🥢 here are the best. And oh, what's this algoni jjamppong...? I think I need to come back for this...? 🤤 The table behind us ordered it and it looked seriously amazing!

They have a self-serve bar here! Even kids' plates were fully stocked. Everything was neatly arranged, and I loved that jjasai (pickled mustard tuber) was one of the side dishes 👍

Oh, there's a mirror-shot spot here too lol! Had to take one right away!!! The overall vibe of the place is just so clean and neat!!!

Wet wipes and tissues are already at the table so you can use them freely, and the staff brought out the first round of side dishes for us!
What we ordered: jjajangmyeon, jjamppong and garlic tangsuyuk

It's been a while since I've seen a place put a fried egg 🍳 on top of jjajangmyeon. The color looked great, the smell was great, and the sauce wasn't too watery — thick and packed with ingredients, exactly how I like it!

Look at that color on the jjajangmyeon ❤️ The noodles were incredibly chewy too~ Yep, this is definitely a Sangdong Station favorite, Glory Works.

There was quite a lot of meat and onion in it too~ My mom kept praising the noodles the whole time 🥢

How rich is the jjamppong broth at Glory Works?
The Glory Works jjamppong 🥢 came out right after, and the broth went beyond spicy — it was seriously rich! Totally different from jjamppong at other places! I fished out the plump shrimp right away haha, and honestly, the quality at this Sangdong Station favorite Glory Works 🇨🇳 is on another level.
Oh, the smell of the jjamppong was the real kicker too... I scooped a spoonful and the broth was thick enough that I wanted to mix in some rice 🥄 There was so much squid that my mom kept piling more onto my bowl lol

Was that cuttlefish? There was some genuinely delicious squid in there! The noodles in the jjamppong were so chewy I almost wanted to ask if they were hand-pulled~ I just slurped it all up without thinking! 🤤

Garlic tangsuyuk: the sauce and the thin batter
The garlic tangsuyuk 🥩 came out. That sauce was the real highlight — garlic sauce!! And the batter on the tangsuyuk wasn't too thick, almost more like fried chicken, don't you think? lol
That sauce was insane, right? Dipping it into the thick sauce — oh man~~~~~~ the portion was huge but somehow it looked like we'd finish it all lol

The meat was so tender, and since the batter wasn't thick it was even better. The meat itself was really delicious too 🤤👍

There were mussels and octopus in the jjamppong too, and scooping them up with the heart-shaped mussel shells and slurping it down was amazing ❤️ You need plenty of ingredients for a soup to really hit the spot! Now I get why this place is always busy~~
There was even a really long piece of tangsuyuk in there!! Each set had such a big portion I wondered if the two of us could finish it all — but we cleaned every plate lol
Final verdict on lunch at Glory Works
🔈 Final thoughts — I can't stop thinking about that algoni jjamppong... I need to go back for it.
