Bucheon eel restaurant with salt and gochujang grill: Gochang Pungcheon Eel

Gochang Pungcheon Eel is located near Sangdong Station in Bucheon. Its large sign made it easy to find. I thought I was holding the camera up high when I took this, but I’m on the short side, so it came out uneven haha;;

The terrace seating was visible right outside, and the place looked clean and reasonably spacious. The weather lately is just perfect for outdoor drinking, so these would be great outdoor seats to enjoy! We’ll meet again in a different look soon, us..★

Wood-toned interior and a separate dining area

Inside had a calm, wood-toned atmosphere, with ventilation equipment at every table. The tables were spaced fairly generously too, so it looked suitable for a meal with a group. It started in 2003 in a 13-pyeong space and has been around for over 20 years; apparently, it was completely stripped out and thoroughly remodeled. The tableware was neatly arranged along one side, and everything looked very tidy overall.

There was also a separate area farther inside, which looked nice for a family meal or gathering 🙂

Salt-grilled and gochujang-grilled eel

The grilled eel came in three main styles: salt-grilled, gochujang-grilled, and soy sauce-grilled. We chose the salt-grilled eel to taste the eel itself and the gochujang-grilled eel with its sweet-spicy seasoning.

Beyond grilled eel, there was a wide range of meal dishes such as eel soup and eel rice cooked in a pot, plus sides including seaweed soup, naengmyeon (cold noodles), and scorched-rice soup. We were able to receive the eel soup as a complimentary item after turning on Naver Place notifications 😋

For reference, the menu stated that each serving of grilled eel has a net weight of 300–310 g. At eel restaurants, whether the serving weight is before trimming or net weight makes a big difference, so 300–310 g net is quite generous!

Since we had booked in advance, a card with the reservation name was ready on the table 🤭

The banchan (Korean side dishes) and eel porridge arrived first. It was soft and mild, perfect for settling the stomach before the grilled eel.

The eel came pre-grilled once you ordered, then was finished on the grill at the table.

A staff member grilled it directly on the tabletop grill until golden, so we could just wait comfortably and eat, haha. It was light yet full of that distinctive rich, nutty eel flavor.

It may not be necessary, but always stay strong! I passed the eel tail to my companion with a little “fighting!” 💪🏻 The banchan spread was quite varied too, with wrap vegetables, seasoned chives, shredded ginger, garlic, ssamjang (savory dipping paste), and pickles that all paired nicely 👍🏻

We also tried the crispy, snack-like fried eel bones.

Just as we were tasting pieces of the salt-grilled eel, they prepared and grilled the gochujang version too.

Even though we moved the salt-grilled eel to one side, it was still getting heat from the grill. I ate it without realizing and it was so hot that I couldn’t speak for a while, haha.

The gochujang-grilled eel was not hot or aggressively seasoned at all—just pleasantly spicy—so even someone who can’t handle spice should be able to enjoy it without trouble.

The gochujang-grilled eel was also an excellent match with all the side dishes! The bubbling eel soup arrived too, and ending the meal with its hot, deep broth made for a very satisfying finish 🙂
