Solo wild ginseng galbitang in Seomyeon before Lotte shopping: Gang
In short
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro near Seomyeon Station in Busanjin, Busan. The writer stopped by alone before shopping at Lotte Department Store Seomyeon and had galbitang served with wild ginseng; the rich broth and tender rib meat that came straight off the bone made one bowl surprisingly filling. For a warm bowl of soup on a solo meal or solo drink in Seomyeon, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is worth coming back to again and again.

Why I picked Gang Galbitang Seomyeon for a solo meal
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang place I visited while looking for somewhere good to eat alone in Seomyeon. These days when I have to eat solo in Seomyeon, it's oddly hard to pick a menu, but this time I wanted something warm and filling, so I decided on galbitang. It's also perfect for building yourself up as autumn and winter approach, and honestly, whenever I think of galbitang, Gang Galbitang is the only place that comes to mind, so this is truly a repeat, repeat, repeat visit for me. Let me introduce Gang Galbitang Seomyeon : )
How far is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon from Seomyeon Station?

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is in a fairly accessible spot, walkable from Seomyeon Station. I visited before shopping at Seomyeon Lotte Department Store, and it only took about 7 minutes on foot, so I'd recommend it as part of a shopping route.

Is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon comfortable to visit alone?
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has an overall clean, well-organized atmosphere, so eating there alone wasn't uncomfortable at all. Seomyeon has so many restaurants and so many people, so when eating alone, you look for a place that isn't too chaotic and doesn't have cramped table spacing.

The interior felt clean and bright, and the tables were set up comfortably for dining, so it was a good spot for a solo meal. It felt like a nice place to stop by when you've been shopping or running errands in Seomyeon and want a hearty, warm bowl of soup.

There were already a good number of people eating solo, and quite a few having a solo drink too, haha.

The menu at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon offers the basic galbitang as well as a spicy version. If you want a smaller portion, go for the galbi gukbap (rib and rice soup)!

There's also aronsatae suyuk (boiled beef shank slices) as a side dish, which is a great pairing if you want a drink with your meal.

How was the galbitang broth at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon?
The broth at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon was richer and deeper than I expected. The galbitang I ordered that day arrived with piping hot broth and generous rib meat, and the first spoonful of broth already tasted rich and satisfying.

I could really taste that clean yet heavy meaty broth that's characteristic of galbitang, and even though the broth was rich, it wasn't overwhelming when eaten with rice, so I kept going for more spoonfuls. Mixing the hot broth with a bit of rice and eating it with the rib meat was really filling.

Rib meat that falls right off the bone
The ribs at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon had quite a bit of meat on them, and it slid right off the bone. Maybe because it was simmered for a long time, the meat wasn't chewy at all and was on the tender side. A bite of meat with broth and rice together had a savory, clean flavor that worked really well.

Full and satisfied with just one bowl
Some galbitang places are mostly just broth, but at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon you really feel like you're eating the rib meat along with the soup, so even one bowl left me quite full. Adding a bowl of rice on top made it a truly hearty lunch or dinner.

If you're looking for a place to eat alone in Seomyeon, you tend to want somewhere with a simple, hearty menu, and Gang Galbitang let me properly eat both hot broth and meat, so it was a comfortable place to dine solo.

Does the galbitang at Gang Galbitang come with wild ginseng?
One thing that stood out about the galbitang at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon was that it came with wild ginseng. Eating the ginseng along with the ribs made it feel like an especially substantial meal, and it stood out as different from the galbitang you usually eat elsewhere.
