Uon Sogopchang (우온소곱창) is a Korean beef gopchang (grilled intestine) restaurant near Exit 7 of Sindang Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Uijeongbu izakaya: torch-seared pork galbi and sukiyaki at Kabayakiton

Kabayakiton Uijeongbu branch (카바야키톤 의정부직영점) is a Japanese charcoal-grill izakaya in an alley near Exit 2 of Hoeryong Station in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. Two of us ordered the Japanese-style pork galbi (25,000 won), which staff finish with a torch for a smoky flavor, the brothy sukiyaki (27,000 won), Suntory highballs and draft beer, and both dishes were satisfying. With soft lighting and well-spaced tables, Kabayakiton Uijeongbu is a good fit for couples looking for a date-night bar in Uijeongbu.

Sokcho egg tart takeout shop: 6am booking, 2pm pickup for two, Doris

Doris Patisserie is a takeout-only egg tart shop tucked into an alley of Sokcho Central Market (Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market) in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a Sokcho trip with my partner, I booked at 6am the day before for a 2pm pickup and bought an Original box (₩15,000) and a Cream Cheese box (₩16,800), and the crisp pastry and rich custard won us both over. Doris Patisserie bakes egg tarts in limited quantities, so booking ahead is the way to go.

Sokcho crab takeout: snow crab innards mixed with rice, Yes Susan

Yes Susan (예스수산) is a red crab and snow crab takeout shop on the first floor of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market (Sokcho Jungang Market) in Sokcho, Gangwon. The writer took a 38,000-won Yes Susan snow crab lunchbox home packed with ice packs; the crab was trimmed so the meat came out without tools, and the crab innards, packed separately in the shell, were delicious mixed with rice. If you want to enjoy snow crab easily at your lodging or at home, the Yes Susan snow crab lunchbox is worth trying at least once.

Suyu Station Korean BBQ, mixed mushrooms and naengmyeon: Suyu Daewang

Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal (수유대왕솥뚜껑 삼겹살) is a cauldron-lid pork belly Korean BBQ restaurant tucked inside the Suyu food alley near Suyu Station in Gangbuk, Seoul. Over a weekend lunch, 600g of aged pork belly (₩29,000) was grilled on the cauldron lid with minari, kimchi and bean sprouts. Mixed mushrooms, kimchi stew and mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) were added to the meal. Verdict: at Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal the mixed mushrooms are a must-add, and the mul naengmyeon to finish is good enough to rival a naengmyeon specialist.

Dongdaemun Korean restaurant: yukhoe tangtangi, yukgaejang | Sunhuine

Sunhuine Bindaetteok Dak Hanmari Dongdaemun is a two-floor Korean restaurant in the Dongdaemun dak hanmari (chicken hot pot) alley in Jongno, Seoul. Instead of the signature dak hanmari, this visit was for yukhoe tangtangi (raw beef with chopped octopus, 38,000 won) and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup, 11,000 won), and even the free beef radish soup served with every meal was satisfying. Cold yukhoe tangtangi and hot yukgaejang pair well, making Sunhuine Bindaetteok a good pick for a hearty Korean meal at Dongdaemun Market.
