Eunpyeong katsu restaurant dinner with cold soba: Katsu Monster

If you're stuck on what to eat for dinner in Yeonsinnae, this is the tonkatsu spot I always recommend!

I've tried it both as takeout and dine-in, and I wanted to recommend this tonkatsu place, Katsu Monster~!

Arriving before 6pm: the room and the seating

I visited just a bit before 6pm and the restaurant was relatively quiet! During the evening peak it's always packed, ugh. The dining room was calm, but so many delivery orders were going out — proof of just how popular this place is, haha.

The interior is kept clean, with plenty of 2-person high tables, and I liked that there's a separate solo-dining zone too, haha.

Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae menu: ordering the 2-person set

There's a wide variety on the menu — rosu, hire, cheese katsu, soba, udon, rice bowls, and more, haha. After some deliberation, I went with the set menu!

— Order — 2-person set (rosu katsu + cheese katsu + cold soba)

Each table came set with wet wipes and dishes of salt and sauce, so it was convenient to use.

And then the salad dressing and tonkatsu sauce they brought out — a whole bottle each! As someone who's always obsessed with never having enough salad dressing, I was so moved... They gave us the whole bottles, so I could pour on as much as I wanted while eating. So good, haha.

The 2-person set arrived and it was seriously... so generous!! Can you see the crispy texture of the tonkatsu batter? This is exactly how well-fried tonkatsu should look... total crispy king.

Rosu katsu: the fat layer that carries the flavor

The basic tonkatsu set comes with tonkatsu, rice, soup, and side dishes!

Personally, I think the highlight of rosu katsu is the fat layer at the edge. A fat layer that's attached just right maximizes the richness of the rosu katsu, ugh.

It's wrapped in crispy batter front, back, and both sides, so be prepared to scrape your mouth's roof a bit. I have no idea what the secret is to keeping it crispy until the very last bite, but thanks to that I got to enjoy the crunch all the way through!!!

The salad dressing is nice and tangy-sweet too, perfect to eat alongside the tonkatsu! Such a killer combo...

Cheese katsu in four pieces — good with salt too

The cheese katsu comes in four pieces! The size was just right, not lacking at all. I picked cold soba for the set — really, could there be a better match for hot summer than cold soba? The pairing is just perfect.

The cheese was melted so perfectly that I was scared it might run away as I picked it up, so I rushed it straight into my mouth.

It's a perfect match with the sauce too! Dipping it in salt is a crazy-good combo as well, so I hope you try it in different ways, haha.

How big is the cold soba portion in the set?

Eating the cold soba with its floating slush of ice really refreshes your appetite and keeps you going. Strongly recommend the cold soba!!

The soba portion is really generous too, so come prepared to eat until you're stuffed. The cold soba broth tastes exactly like what you'd expect — and that familiar taste is dangerously good. I finished the cold soba completely. Even though it's a set menu, the tonkatsu pieces are big and thick, so it was truly a portion that could fill up two people!
