Hi, this is Hachu! I met a friend near Seoul Station and suddenly craved gyukatsu, so I went to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a place with great reviews as a Seoul Station restaurant 🤗
How to find Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, and is there a wait at 8pm?
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is pretty close to exit 10 of Seoul Station, so accessibility is really good!! I actually got a little lost, but if you head toward the LG Tower and go down to the basement, you'll find it!

I heard Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch gets busy enough to have a wait at lunchtime. There's a waiting machine set up outside the restaurant, so during busy hours you just register and wait.

I was lucky and went late in the evening, so I got to eat with no wait at all!
Inside Ichigyu: a proper Japanese-style dining room
Once you walk in, the whole place feels clean and has that Japanese restaurant atmosphere! I visited around 8pm on a weekday, and since it's a well-known Seoul Station restaurant, there were quite a few customers haha.

The seating is mostly set up with 2-person tables, and there are also 4-person tables, so it looked great for solo dining, dates, and even hanging out with friends.

The lighting is warm and cozy, so I'd recommend it for a date!
There were also people eating solo at the 2-person tables. It's not a rowdy, loud atmosphere, so it looked good for solo dining too.
The menu: sirloin gyukatsu and what comes in Set 2

The signature menu item is, of course, gyukatsu! The cut is sirloin. What we ordered this time was Set 2, which comes with Ichigyu gyukatsu, hamburg omurice, and two drinks! It was cheaper than ordering everything separately, so I even added extra meat haha. We're women with big appetites, so the meat add-on was non-negotiable lol.
Eating Set 2: gyukatsu, extra meat and hamburg omurice

The dish I was most looking forward to that day! 😝 The gyukatsu comes out with a thin, crispy breaded coating on the outside, and the inside is not fully cooked, so you grill it yourself on the brazier at your table to your preferred doneness.

The base gyukatsu portion isn't small to begin with, but I really wanted to eat my fill of meat, so I added even more. This is the extra meat I ordered haha.

The hamburg omurice we also ordered! It's vegetable fried rice topped with soft egg and a hamburg steak, finished with demi-glace sauce. Doesn't it look amazing just from the visual? 😛

I'm not just saying this — it's the prettiest, plumpest-looking omelet I've ever seen... I've eaten a lot of omelets living abroad, and the shape on this one is truly perfect!

How to grill Ichigyu's gyukatsu on the butter brazier
Now for how to enjoy the gyukatsu the best way!
Once the brazier is ready, first put the butter that comes with it onto the pan to melt. Once the butter melts and starts coating the pan, place the gyukatsu on it a piece or two at a time and grill lightly on both sides~ Since you grill it yourself, my friend and I could each cook it to our own taste, which was great!

If you grill it too long the meat can get tough, so personally I'd recommend grilling just a little at a time as you eat rather than piling it all on at once! The meat itself is thick, so there's also fun in watching it sizzle away on the brazier, and grilling it in butter brings out an amazing savory aroma haha.

Chili sauce, steak sauce, salt, and wasabi are all served together, and dipping in each one by turns made every bite fun~ For me, the salt + wasabi combo was my favorite! My friend said the sauce-dipped version was tastier haha.
Now onto the omurice! I was wondering where the hamburg steak was, and it turned out it was hiding under the egg lol. I poured the sauce that came on top of the omelet all over it and dug in!

The egg was soft and fluffy, so it went great with the fried rice, and eating it together with the hamburg steak made every bite wonderfully balanced 😋

I cleaned my plate without leaving a single bite lol. It was a truly satisfying meal 😚
Who is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch best for?
With great accessibility close to Seoul Station, a clean Japanese-style atmosphere, and the fun of grilling your own gyukatsu on the brazier, Ichigyu is a great Seoul Station restaurant to visit for a date or a meal with friends! Grilling gyukatsu yourself is a simple and fun way to enjoy meat when other grilling options feel like too much of a hassle! The hamburg omurice was also filling and soft, making it a great pairing to order alongside the gyukatsu 😀
If you're near Seoul Station looking for something a bit different from the usual tonkatsu or rice bowls, or if you like gyukatsu you grill yourself, I think it's worth a visit. Especially if you love meat, try the combo I did — gyukatsu with extra meat plus the hamburg omurice! You'll walk out properly full, from meat to rice. :)
