In short

Visiting in the early hours with my partner, I ordered the couple set for two (500g), which comes with pork belly and seasoned LA galbi (marinated beef short ribs) plus a choice of soft tofu stew, and the dining room had every window thrown open so it felt like an open-air grill house. My partner and I couldn't hold back our late-night hunger and wanted some good pork belly, so we visited Haetteuljip, a well-known spot near Yadang Station.

Windows wide open: Haetteuljip's open-air grill house feel
Walking into the restaurant, I noticed they'd thrown every window wide open to suit the weather these days. It really felt like sitting at an outdoor pojangmacha (street food tent), with a cool night breeze drifting through — the atmosphere was fantastic.
Instead of a stuffy indoor space, grilling meat in this open, airy setting somehow made it taste even better!

There were also plenty of seats spread out, so we could settle in comfortably. It seemed like a great spot both for couples on a date and for groups hanging out late at night.

What comes with the 500g couple set for two
Looking over Haetteuljip's menu, they sell gochujang pork belly, pork belly loin, seasoned LA galbi, a couple set for two, and a hearty set.
We wanted pork belly but couldn't give up LA galbi either, so we ordered the couple set for two (500g), which comes with both! Getting to enjoy pork belly and LA galbi together, it doesn't get better than this in terms of value and variety, haha. With the set you also get to choose between cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) or soft tofu stew, and we went with the soft tofu stew since we were craving something spicy and warm.

After ordering, the staff set out the basic side dishes. The table filled up with hearty banchan — soft rolled egg, fresh lettuce wraps, and quail eggs braised in soy sauce, the ultimate rice side.

A little while later, the main meat arrived, and just from a glance the quality looked really great, with a generous portion too!

They set out water dropwort, bracken fern, green onion kimchi, and kimchi to grill alongside the pork belly.

With the kimchi, water dropwort, and bracken added, the whole table looked wonderfully abundant.
How was the pork belly at Haetteuljip?
We laid the thick slices of meat and vegetables onto the heated grill and started cooking away.

Even just the sight and sizzle of the meat cooking on the grill was already a win.
Taking a bite of the pork belly once it was grilled nice and golden, the outside was crispy, and every chew burst with savory juices.

Wrapping a piece of meat with grilled water dropwort, bracken, and green onion kimchi all together into one big bite was an absolutely perfect combination!

Placing a thick piece of pork belly on fresh lettuce and popping it in my mouth, all those different textures and flavors came together at once — I couldn't stop eating.

Soft tofu stew and a heaped bowl of rice
Right as we were deep into enjoying the meat, the soft tofu stew showed up at perfect timing!

It arrived still bubbling in the stone pot, and one spoonful of the broth was spicy with real depth, cleansing my palate completely.

The bowl of rice we ordered alongside came piled up sky-high, packed down firmly — I was genuinely touched by the generosity : )

Seasoned LA galbi arrives cooked — no grilling needed
Haetteuljip's seasoned LA galbi comes fully cooked and grilled already, so there's no need to fuss over it on the grill yourself — you can just dig in right away, which was so convenient and great!

The special sweet-and-salty marinade had soaked deep into every layer of meat, and the texture was tender, not the least bit tough.
Piled on top of plain white rice, it was truly rice-stealing good. My partner and I kept looking at each other, gushing about how delicious it was, and we picked the very last bits of meat clean off the bones : )

Getting to enjoy both pork belly and LA galbi this generously for a truly reasonable price in the ₩30,000s — the value was insane, and the taste was top-notch!

If you want easy parking in the late-night hours and a hearty meat meal in a place full of open-air pojangmacha vibes, give Haetteuljip near Yadang Station a visit : )
