I found a proper roastery café near Yeoksam Station. It's surprisingly hard to find a place among the building forest that's quiet and lets you focus on the coffee itself, but Mini Male Coffee Roaster Yeoksam Branch has become a café I want to stop by every time I go to Seoul.

The whole exterior is finished in clean floor-to-ceiling glass and black tones, giving off a sleek vibe. Thanks to the big windows that let you see clearly into the café interior, it didn't feel stuffy at all — I liked that.

Inside Mini Male Coffee Roaster Yeoksam Branch, clean mid-century modern furniture harmonizes with calm lighting. I loved the quiet mood that makes you momentarily forget you're right in the middle of a busy downtown area.

There were tables comfortable enough for working alone on a laptop or reading, plus 2-person and 4-person tables well arranged for conversation. The tables also had generous spacing, so chatting felt comfortable.

Since Mini Male Coffee Roaster is a specialty brand that roasts its own coffee, it sells a range of single-origin and blend beans as well as drip bags directly in the shop. Beans come in 200g units, and there are also drip bag sets you can enjoy at home or the office just by pouring hot water — great for gifts, I think.

Helsinki latte, 5,200 won

The Helsinki latte was so surprising — not just heavily sweet like a typical condensed-milk latte or vanilla latte. A refined, smooth sweetness shows up at the end. True to its name, which is said to capture the feel of Helsinki, Finland, it was clean yet had a rich, nutty depth of milk that was genuinely delicious. The bitter, nutty flavor of the beans rises up through the sweet milk base, leaving no heaviness in the aftertaste at all — really pleasant. You can tell why this is the signature drink.

Iced café latte

The iced latte was the ultimate in nuttiness. Rather than acidity, it focused on nutty flavor and balance — as the espresso mixes with the milk, the nuttiness doubles. Unlike a bland latte that tastes mostly of milk, the heavy body of the espresso shot was clearly alive, and honestly I nearly drank the whole thing in one go. If you prefer coffee's inherent bitter, nutty flavor, this is a taste that'll satisfy pretty much everyone.

Matilda chocolate cake

I also ordered a dense chocolate cake. While looking for a sweet dessert to pair with coffee, the chocolate cake caught my eye right away. The inside of Mini Male's chocolate cake had a chewy, dense texture that I really loved. Instead of a dry, crumbly cake, it's more like a rich chocolate ganache set solid, I'd say? And yet the sweetness wasn't overdone either. There's a bitter note from the high-quality cacao, and paired with a latte, it was the kind of chocolate cake you could just keep eating.

If you want to experience proper coffee flavor near Yeoksam Station, definitely visit. They use only carefully selected specialty green beans scoring 80 points or above on cupping, and you can taste three beans that the head roaster personally sorts and roasts.
