Straw-smoked udae galbi and kimchi fried rice for two: Jeju Udae

In short

Jeju Udae is a straw-fire udae galbi restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, near Jeju Airport. Two of us shared staff-grilled udae galbi with a rotating lineup of sauces — nut ssamjang, pepper pesto, Maldon salt, and perilla leaf chimichurri — before finishing with galbi kkakdugi fried rice and tomato marinade. Clean, gamey-free meat and a thoughtful sauce lineup make it a solid stop for the first or last day of a Jeju trip.

Hi, it's Briefer :) Today's post is about Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch, a restaurant well known near Jeju Airport. Professional staff grill the top-grade straw-fire udae galbi for you, so the whole meal was really easy to enjoy. It's also perfectly located if you're looking for a place with a convenient route for the start or end of your Jeju trip!

Location near Jeju Airport and parking

Parking right in front of the restaurant is a bit limited, but there's nothing to worry about. Free parking is available at Nohyeong Paid Parking Lot (25 Wonnohyeong 3-gil, Jeju-si), in front of the Four Seasons Hotel, just a minute's walk away. 👍

Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch has a modern, sleek exterior that catches your eye even from a distance. It's within walking distance of Jeju Dream Tower (Grand Hyatt), Shilla Duty Free, and Maison Glad Jeju, so it's very accessible if you're staying nearby or dropping by after shopping.

Atmosphere and waiting

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the clean, pleasant interior was visible right from the entrance, which built up my expectations. The tables were neatly arranged, giving off a good impression even just passing by. There's a Catch Table kiosk at the entrance for convenient waitlist registration, so it runs smoothly even during busy hours.

Inside, a spacious hall opened up, with generous spacing between tables that made for a relaxed, comfortable meal. The whole space was clean and well organized, making it a great choice for a family gathering with parents or kids, or a birthday dinner. It also seemed perfect for group get-togethers or business meals. 👍

Looking around the restaurant, I could see top-grade raw meat being carefully aged. Beyond the visible marbling, you could sense the care put into every step — from selecting the meat, to trimming, to aging — which really built up my anticipation for the taste. 😁

Staff grilling with straw-fire smoking

I got to watch a staff member smoke the udae galbi over straw fire right at the grill. The dramatic flames paired with the straw-fire scent gently infusing the meat was really eye-catching. On top of the visual show, the deep smoky aroma made my appetite kick in before the meal even started.

Inside the display case, a variety of wines were neatly lined up to further enhance the flavor of the meat. It was a clean lineup, great for pairing with the udae galbi on a special occasion like a family dinner or an anniversary.

On the table, there was a detailed guide on how to enjoy the restaurant's own special way of savoring the meat's flavor.

The basic table setting and beef radish soup

After a short wait, a generous, neatly arranged basic table setting arrived to set off the flavor of the main meat. The table was filled with clean side dishes and a varied sauce lineup, all so carefully done that it made my mouth water just looking at it.

Among the spread, a rich beef radish soup arrived in a hot stone bowl. One spoonful and I felt warmed up from the inside out.

You can enjoy a variety of flavors depending on the sauce you choose ^^

The fun of choosing: the sauce lineup

There was also a wide variety of basic sauces, which made choosing part of the fun. First up is the nut ssamjang, packed with savory nuts that add a nice chewy texture.

You can also try a unique pepper pesto where cheongyang chili, cheese, and almonds come together nicely. It has a bit of a Korean-style wasabi charm, and it went really well with the meat.

There was also Maldon salt on hand, letting you fully taste the meat's clean flavor and rich aroma. Perfect for a quick, clean dip.

And rounding things out, a special garlic sauce that adds a sharp, pungent flavor to every bite. The care put into every single sauce was seriously impressive.

One sauce with a really distinctive flavor caught my eye — a perilla leaf chimichurri made with perilla leaves and olive oil, with an unusually fragrant aroma.

Among the side dishes, one really stood out — radish salad sliced thin like thread, with a great crunchy texture.

Straw-fire udae galbi for two

Finally, today's star dish arrived — the gorgeous-looking straw-fire udae galbi. The combination of the big, beautifully pre-seared udae galbi with fresh mushrooms and cheongyang peppers was striking. For two people, it was a hearty, satisfying portion. 😁

Once it hit the grill and browned up nicely, a rich, savory smell spread and hit my nose. The moment I took a bite of a piece cut into a good size, I could feel the tender texture and rich meaty flavor spreading through my mouth!!!

The meat, trimmed into bite-sized pieces, was glistening with a nice shine. It tasted even better because the staff grilled each cut carefully to bring out the flavor of each part. 👍

Up close, it was a textbook case of crispy outside, juicy inside. The more you chew, the more savory flavor spreads through your mouth.

I tried a bite loaded up with the special sauce. The mix of wasabi, the house sauce, and aged kimchi really brought out the meat's natural savoriness and umami, making for a well-balanced flavor you never get tired of.

I also tried dipping a piece into the Maldon salt for extra flavor. A perfect way to finish it off cleanly.

Placing a thick piece of meat on a tortilla along with the special sauce brought out a whole different charm. Galbi wrapped in a tortilla — such a fresh combination.

Finishing dish and dessert

You can't skip the griddle dish we ordered to finish the meal, either. It's kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) fried rice with galbi meat from the rib section of the udae galbi, and the chewy texture was excellent.

After the meal, the refreshingly sweet tomato marinade served as dessert cleaned up the greasy aftertaste perfectly, making for a great course all the way to the end. Its cool, refreshing flavor was a great palate cleanser, letting us finish the meal on a happy note. ^^

The tender, moist meat with no gamey smell, combined with the varied lineup of special sauces, made Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch a place that stuck with me for a long time. Whether you're planning a route near Jeju Airport or want to enjoy a clean, satisfying meal with people who matter to you, I'd recommend this place without hesitation. It was such a great meal that I'd want to come back again without a second thought on my next Jeju trip!!!
