As the weather gets hotter I keep craving cool bingsu 🥭 This time I visited Maekmundong, a place in Gwangju that's both big in scale and wide in dessert variety! It's a large cafe from the outside too, so parking worries are minimal, and it was comfortable to visit with a group.

Is parking easy at Maekmundong?

Maekmundong has its own dedicated parking lot in front of the store with plenty of spots, so it was convenient to visit by car. I usually worry about parking when hunting for cafes, but here there's so much parking space that I could park with ease — I really liked that.

The 1st floor of Maekmundong operates as a restaurant and the 2nd floor as a cafe — it caught my eye more since it's been a Blue Ribbon-selected restaurant every year. It's a place where you can handle everything from a meal to dessert, so it seemed great for family gatherings or visits with several people.

The inside of the 2nd floor cafe at Maekmundong was much bigger than I expected. The high ceilings especially give it an open, uncramped feel, and overall the atmosphere is pleasant.

There's a variety of seating too — plenty of plush seats, plus wide seating where several people can sit together, so it seemed good as a spot for gatherings.

What's on the Maekmundong menu?

Maekmundong's menu has quite a range, from bingsu to cakes, pizza, and drinks, so you end up deliberating for a while over what to order. It seems good whether you visit just for dessert or to use the cafe after a meal.

From cheesecake to fig, mango, and peach cakes, there's a range of desserts prepared, and every single one looked so good it was hard to just walk past.

Can you order a whole cake at Maekmundong?

Maekmundong also sells whole cakes by pre-order, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a cake for a special day. The whole cakes come in fig, peach, mango, kiwi, chocolate, and cheesecake — quite a variety!

How does the fresh mango & cheese gelato bingsu (22.8) taste?

The menu I picked was none other than Maekmundong's mango bingsu — the fresh mango & cheese gelato bingsu 22.8! It looked amazing right away, piled generously with mango, cooling you down just by looking at it. Above all, the mango was really well-ripened, so it was delicious even eaten on its own 🥹✨ The soft, sweet mango practically melted the moment it hit my mouth, and I kept reaching for more.

Inside the bingsu there's gelato too, and it's made with milk ice, so eating it together with the mango gave a sweet yet soft flavor combo that worked really well. On top of that, they sprinkle on flakes, which add a crunchy texture — it was subtly addictive. When you're craving a cool dessert in summer, having a mango bingsu like this makes the heat disappear completely 🤤 So if you're looking for a place to eat bingsu in Gwangju, I'd really recommend Maekmundong as a top spot!!!!!

Maekmundong is a large cafe with spacious rooms and easy parking, making it great to visit with family or friends, and with such a wide dessert variety you can pick according to your taste. This time I had mango bingsu, but next time I'd like to try other cakes and desserts too. If you want to enjoy cool bingsu and a variety of desserts all in one place this summer, spend some relaxed time at Maekmundong, a top bingsu spot in Gwangju!!
